Best Avaliable Player
I do not understand people complaining about the Saints drafting the BAP, like Pittman. A teams runningback depth can get hurt during training camp, and the Saints could trade Stecker to them. Remember the Saints not only traded a runningback last year to a team who needed one, before the season, for a draft pick, but they also traded for two LBs before the season too. The season has not started yet and we or the Saints do not know what will happen. Lets assume that they have a plan, and will do there best to get the best players on the field, but also make trades to make the team better also.

Thank for agreeing saintsfan1976, the Saints have a very deep team at most positions; WR, RB, OL, DL, LB, CB and they can make moves all the way to the season begins. I mean for all we know they may be getting calls now for Stecker or any of the extra players that we think they don't need.

I haven't seen anyone really complaining about the pick at all. I have even some comments about the good value the Saints got with that pick.
I also like the fact that Payton saw him available and went after him, not sitting back waiting for him to fall into our laps. That says something about the player. BPA isn't a bad theory... Get value and keep the value. |

To both of you:
Draft and sign "system guys"... The "tier" of player they are is not indicative of their skills and abilities when they are in the right system with the right coaches/scheme/division...etc. The Saints are becoming a TEAM. Becoming a group of solid players who excel in this system because they fill their ROLE and perform. ala Patriots, Bulls, Bears....etc. This is a new era in Saints football. Payton is a Godsend. I will never question the team's decisions until they get to be Ditka and Hasslett-like... Sit back and enjoy the ride fans.... it's gonna be a doozy to the top!!! |

To me, drafting Matrix (and again Pittman) means a conscious effort by the brass to send Deuce packing. He is the value. We may be able to recoup a 2nd. Will these RB moves by the Saints mean stacking depth, or saving money in the long run? Time will tell.

When we moved up to draft Pittman I was screaming for a LB or DT like everyone else. But...
Is Dhani Jones a better pickup than a 4th round LB? probably Is Clancy a better signing than a 4th rounder? absolutely, 100% Bottom line, if you look at our draft by itself, maybe it doesn't look better than average. But why would anyone look just at the draft? The draft was just part of an A++ off-season: Simmons, Mare, KK, Jones, David, Clancy, Patten, Johnson, plus great young depth in the draft equals personnel improvement at 6 positions on an already pretty good team. |
