Bucs Bounce Rice
POSTED 6:38 p.m. EDT; LAST UPDATED 6:50 p.m. EDT, July 26, 2007 BUCS BOUNCE RICE In a move that is not a shocker but is still nevertheless surprising, the Bucaneers have cut defensive end Simeon Rice, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com. Rice was due to earn a base salary of $7.25 million in 2007, the final year of his contract. Per Glazer, the Bucs asked Rice to take a pay cut, and Rice refused. Glazer reports that Rice had checked into camp, and was plucked from dinner for a meeting at which he was informed of the decision. The move creates $7.25 million in cap space for the Bucs, which could be used to sign quarterback Daunte Culpepper, with whom the team met last week. Culpepper reportedly is seeking a one-year deal, which shouldn't be a problem for Gruden, who realizes that this one year could be his last year in Tampa. Look for Rice to be courted by the Detroit Lions, who are coached by former Bucs defensive line coach Rod Marinelli. Other possibilities (as we see it) are the Bears, Steelers, and Vikings. now that is a surprise |
i dont want tampa to have that much depth at qb, so I hope daunte signs with detroit. Especially since reports are that he is 100%,as long as there isnt a 1 yd fumble to run into the inzone i guess we are ok! dribble, dribble, score!!!
Sorry for the bad memory guys. |
With Gaines Adams, Rice's salary and decline in production, the move was inevitable. The guy use to be a beast. Seeing how we need some depth on the D-Line, I wonder if he would be interested in a minimal vet deal so he has a good chance at winning a SuperBowl. I mean crap, he's made a ton of money already throughout his career. Just imagine a Smith, Grant, and Rice rotation... that's sick.
I know I know... it's not going to happen. One can dream though! |
I've got a question for you guys who understand the salary numbers and rules...
Considering Rice just got cut, if we were to sign him, would we have to sign him to the same deal that he had with the Bucs, or would we be able to sign him to a lesser contract? |
We can sign him to whatever we want... as long as it's not below the vets minimum.
|
I would love to see Rice in Black and Gold. Might be to much money but as you guys say. That would be sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
|
what has he done?

yeah I would not complain about that and your right that would be a sick line up but the question is would the saints be willing to deal for him and would he be willing to work a deal considering his career resumay |
