Analysts aren't panicking over Saints' performance
Posted by David Gladow
August 09, 2007 5:45PM At least, some analysts aren't panicking. NFL.com's Vic Carucci still lists New Orleans among six NFL teams he thinks can realistically contend for a Super Bowl Championship, despite the Saints' awful preseason opener against the Steelers. His analysis makes the case that the New Orleans offense is potent enough to win it all, and any semblance of defense will be enough. I think given Sunday's performance, it may be too much to ask for that semblance. I jest. In truth, one never knows. One thing to keep in mind is that the longer the defensive struggles continue, the more pressure it puts on the offense, and the more mistakes start happening. Do I foresee doom and gloom? Not necessarily. It's just good to hold one's expectations in check this time of year anyway, and Sunday's performance provides the perfect excuse to do so. Let's hope the Saints look better against the Bills on Friday. I think they will. |

Our D is not going to get better overnight, but look at the improvement they showed by the end of the year.
I still think we will be middle tier at best, but that should be enough. |

I, personally, prefer a Ravens type of team. A team that has an awesome defense and average offense. The irony is that I loathe the Ravens. Make no mistake, I love this Saints team but I miss the tough defense this team had in the late 80's and early 90's. I want teams to fear our defense again. If only this offense could have the Dome Patrol defense... |

Re: Analysts aren't panicking over Saints' performance
If you ask me I think Sean Payton and Joe Vitt should sit the entire Defense down, get the Saints video people to put together a video of how our Defense was during the DOME PATROL days. The Defensive players should be shown that there is a history here when it comes to DEFENSE not offense, they need to be shown why our expectations are always pretty high when it comes to DEFENSE. If they are aware of the pride we once had in our DEFENSE then maybe they will understand how to really play New Orleans Saints style DEFENSE.

If the new players can can gel quickly with the starters from last year.....we'll be fine.

We are almost there. almost there building something special long term here. They need to stay focused. Sean seems to be the man to do it. While the superbowl would be great I am looking for the division and a sweeping within it as a key indicator if we have what it takes to get to the promise land year in and year out for the next 10 years. Yes I want a team like NE.
