Inside the Huddle: Brooks gets clearance

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By John Clayton
ESPN.com

Aaron Brooks has the green light for full throwing during training camp after minor offseason shoulder surgery, but the Saints' bigger challenge is getting Brooks to better shoulder the offense in December. In the past two Decembers, Brooks' touchdown passes dropped and his interceptions soared, so Jim Haslett hired leadership experts to mentor Brooks and other key players to help them stay mentally tough. With 8,918 passing yards in a little over two seasons as a starter, Brooks, 27, is so valued as the team's franchise player that he's on pace to break Archie Manning's career yardage stats by 2006.

Aaron Brooks has the green light for full throwing during training camp [b:414630ffc0] after minor offseason shoulder surgery
It\'s great that he will be 100% but was the surgery minor? What the hell was all the talk about him not being able to go if it was so minor?

In my eyes, I don\'t think there is a such thing as a \"minor\" shoulder surgery on the throwing arm of a QB. If he comes back 100%, awesome. I just hope he doesn\'t suffer a setback by going all out in training camp. Wait to show it off a little during preseason and then come slinging by Week 1

The best thing for Brooks is for him not to have to SHOULDER as much responsibility as what has been made of. As the QB of the team you are expected to be THE leader. You are expected to make the plays, the ones that make a difference in winning and losing. With the supporting cast now surrounding him, it shouldn\'t be necessary for him to shoulder the burden of being forced to make a play down after down, forcing the ball into coverage leading to high ints and incomplete passes nor should he take as many sacks. If he will make his reads, get the ball out to the open target or decide to run sooner his completion percentage will go up and turnovers will go down. We have a deeper and more overall talented group of recievers than ever before and with increased production from the TE position and Deuce staying healthy there should be plenty of playmakers on the O side of the ball. Better defensive play will give the offense a few extra snaps each game. AB be da man!

There\'s a saying:

It\'s only minor surgery when someone else is having it ! !

Brooks Ready to Go!!!

If he will make his reads
I gotta, say, he is slow and progressing through his reads. By the time he decides to tuck it away it\'s too late. I would have thought that familiarity with his recievers would begin to offset his delay in acquiring the next target, but he seems to lock onto #1 and then get happy feet if there\'s no window. He forces the ball so much because his mindset is to make plays even at the last second of opportunity...thus he throws pics, the ball slips out, or he gets the ball batted out at the last second. If his progression was quicker he could be slipping out of the pocket when the pass protection is still there, not after these guys have been wrestling for 6-7 seconds and it\'s breaking down. This is a fundamental weakness in his game. When Brooks has time or a the primary target gets immediate seperation then look out because Brooks can make you pay like few other QB\'s in the game. If coverage is there on the first two reads then the defense is starting to get the edge because he is too late escaping or using a dump off.
