August 18, 2007 9:03PM CINCINNATI - Buoyed by another fine performance by the front-line offense and defense, the Saints finally broke through with their first exhibition victory Saturday night, topping the home-standing Bengals 27-19 in Paul Brown Stadium. Drew Brees was a perfect 6 for 6 for 55 yards on his only offensive drive Saturday night, leading the team to its first touchdown, an 8-yard scoring run up the middle by Deuce McAllister. The Saints also scored on a 6-yard run by Reggie Bush, a 1-yard run by rookie Antonio Pittman and a 48- and 23-yard field goals by Olindo Mare. Brees' touchdown drive on the Saints opening possession was the first time Brees has led the Saints to a score in the exhibition season. Last year, the Saints first-team offense had been outscored 44-6 in four exhibition games and Brees had yet to direct the offense to a touchdown in the Saints' previous two exhibition games this summer against Pittsburgh (zero points) and Buffalo (three points).
