I think Henderson is a good way to think about the Meachem "problem." It is very standard for WRs in particular to have a long development period (usually in the 3 to 4 year range) by conventional wisdom anyway. Obviously, there are some gifted players (or ones on teams where the starters... ahem... suck) that get rolling early; however, for the most WRs don't come into their own for several years - pretty much the opposite of RBs.
That said, drafting a player with a history of injury problems does lead one to start thinking "bust", I'd have to say. I was pleased to see that Meachem got himself ready to play in pre-season, since there was a time it wasn't clear when he'd be able to get started. He's got some tools, so let's see what he can do before we write him off. |
