Re: meachem
I mean I could say bust, but there would be so many things wrong with that label at this point in time. First of all, we're still in the preseason. These aren't real games and he's not being thrown the ball by Drew Brees, and that makes a huge difference (just ask all of those guys who went from having to catch AB's balls to catching Brees' balls). Secondly, if you have seen absolutely nothing out of Meachem, it's probably because you haven't been watching because he made a spectacular catch in the back of the end zone against Buffalo. Thirdly, you have to remember that the guy is just a rookie, one who is also coming off of knee surgery which forced him to miss some time in camp. You can't judge him by the results of somebody like, say Marques Colston, because finding a rookie wide receiver who can do that is RARE. It is widely known that one of the most difficult positions for a rookie to come in and make an impact at is wide receiver. So I would say that your label of "bust" is a little premature considering 1) we're still in preseason, 2) he has shown some signs of promise, 3) he's a rookie coming off knee surgery, and 4) he is trying to come into the hardest position for rookies to succeed at in the NFL.

Anyway, I also don't call players a bust until their third season. I've seen some label Donte a bust, but I don't agree. He had his role, and 1st round picks aren't guaranteed to prosper. I guess people just expect immediate returns, since we were spoiled with some picks. Matrix didn't really stand out to me until the latter half of the season. |

Re: meachem
Just way to early to say he's a "bust"
IMO he'll be OK once he gains more experience. He is a rookie and we all know what a rookie WR goes through in most cases in the NFL.(speed of the game, routes etc) Colston was a wonderful exception. |

Re: meachem
Bust is a lil to strong of a label. Let's just see how he develop during the season first. Besides, like I said before, he's not a primary weapon or a go to guy. He's going to have time to develop, so let's just hope he does, because it will make our team that much better.

Re: meachem

I wont, I can not, and shall not utter those words.
Why u ask: 1st round money. That buys him the standard 3 year arrival time in the NFL. Just be glad the wait is with the 27th pick money and nothing higher. |

Re: meachem
it is still early. the kid is a rookie and mssed time because of the injury. i think devery will have a pretty good year and i hope to see some stuff out of meach during the year. some signs of life, but he will still be a rookie. add in colston and that will eventually be a nice 3 at wide out.

Re: meachem
too early for bust talk, look devery finally had a good season last year, and is finally coming into his own in the league. He was expected to be a big contributor early on. It just takes time. I'd rather the team let him take some time to develop and mature rather than just throwing him to the wolves and ending up like charles rogers.

Re: meachem
I think some of us need to realize that the 2006 draft was special and we got extremely lucky that year. What that rookie class did for us was amazing and we can't expect finds like that every year. Rookies take time to develop and Meachem is no different. Give the guy some time before you label him as a bust, first rounder or not, it takes time and because of his injury and missed practices he's a little behind.
