Tuesday practice report - New Orleans Saints Beat - Times-Picayune NFL - NOLA.com
Tuesday practice report Posted by Mike Triplett, Staff writer August 21, 2007 1:03PM Categories: Saints Michael DeMocker / Times-Picayune Saints wide receiver Marques Colston may miss his second straight game against Kansas City. The Saints held their first practice back at the team's training facility in Metairie on Tuesday morning - a welcome change of pace for the players. "No one likes training camp," linebacker Scott Fujita said. "If they say they do, they're lying." The Saints will have another practice this afternoon, then a walkthrough tomorrow morning before they make the flight to Kansas City for Thursday night's preseason game. Fujita and center Jeff Faine both said they hope to play in the game after missing the last two weeks with injuries. Both practiced with the first string on Tuesday and are expected to be in the starting lineup if they respond well over the next two days. Saints Coach Sean Payton also said there is a "good chance" linebacker Mark Simoneau will be able to play after suffering a minor knee bruise in last Saturday's game against Cincinnati. Payton was less optimistic about receiver Marques Colston, who is resting a sore knee. "If it were a regular season game, I think he'd be able to go," Payton said. "But there's a good chance with this short week that I might sit him again and then play him next week against Miami." Another player who will be scratched from the lineup Thursday is cornerback Jason David, who will remain back in New Orleans for the birth of his first child, which is due any day. ... The Saints released three players on Tuesday - quarterback Matt Baker and offensive linemen Jake Kuresa and Nik Sobic. The Saints have to make a total of 10 cuts by the start of next week, but they decided to thin out the roster a little early. Payton said the Saints will likely make the rest of their roster cuts on Friday or Saturday. Baker, who signed just two weeks ago, apparently didn't show enough on Saturday night to push Tyler Palko and Jason Fife for the No. 3 quarterback job. Payton said he has not decided if Palko or Fife will get snaps in Thursday's game. ... The coach plans to play most of the starters into the second half on Thursday, giving them a chance to practice going in at halftime and coming back out to start the third quarter. |

Re: Tuesday practice report
martin had his chance last year and he showed that he is not a solid veteran back up... he stinks...lets face facts...if brees goes down to injury the saints are screwed with any of the qbs that are currently on the roster, so why not keep 2 young qbs that can grow into the next starter or solid backups.

Re: Tuesday practice report
after hearing everything Payton has to say on the subject of back-up QBees, it sounds pretty clear to me that Martin is his #2 QB and Palko and Fife are #3 hopefuls.
As I`ve stated before, I trust Payton`s call. |
