Cantonized
Yet another worthless article from the WWL that I found mildly interesting: a list of the top fifty current players with a shot at Canton.
ESPN Page 2 - Page 2: NFL Hall of Fame Mort. Stats Team Upside Int. Total 10 4 4 20 16 54 34. Reggie Bush Reggie Bush isn't going to barge his way to NFL stardom as a bruising, between-the-tackles bully in the Earl Campbell mold. That's no secret. But Bush's agility, speed and soft hands make him one of the most explosive players in the league. His 88 receptions last season are the third-most by a rookie in NFL history and the most ever by a rookie running back. Teamed with an offensive core of Drew Brees, Marques Colston and Deuce McAllister in New Orleans, it's not difficult to imagine Bush getting the chance to play for a Super Bowl ring in the near future. On the Bubble: Drew Brees In the Super Bowl era, only five quarterbacks became Hall of Famers without winning one: Fouts, Kelly, Marino, Moon and Tarkenton. All put up gaudy numbers for many years, however, and only Fouts and Moon didn't play in a Super Bowl. So Brees' potential enshrinement will rest largely upon whether he hoists the Lombardi Trophy. With five more seasons at his 2004-06 level, Brees would be in league with Kelly's career numbers. But if Brees doesn't experience significant team success, he might need to top Fouts' NFL numbers, which would take another seven or eight years at a Pro Bowl level. |

Re: Cantonized
What kind of struck me as odd was what he wrote in regards to Adam Vinatieri:
"The only strike against Vinatieri is the scarcity of kickers represented in the Hall -- Jan Stenerud is the only one. Vinatieri will be the second, although his intangible score gets docked because of this." I beg to differ. Not because I do not think Vinatieri will make the Hall of Fame, but because I believe that he will be the 4th, not the 2nd, kicker to make it there, because both Gary Anderson and Morten Andersen will arrive there prior to his induction. |
