One last weakness!
As I look at the Saints roster, I only see one glaring weakness. That is the reserve QB position. I do not have anything against Jamie Martin, but lets get real. If Drew Brees is injured, Martin is probably good for only a few weeks. Then what, the Tyler Palko era begins? Talk about a season with Superbowl expectations going downhill quick... An easy way for the Saints to fall to 8-8 is having Drew Brees sustain a season ending injury. A way to avoid that possibility, maybe bring in another veteran and hope Palko makes it pass the waiver wire and on the practice squad. Remember, the Saints can run the ball, and they can block. Since Mark Brunell is about to get released from Washington, maybe he is a possible 3rd guy? How about Byron Leftwich, I am not too crazy about him, but he is going to be released from Jacksonville, and could be another option for the Saints. Since I do not believe that Tyler Palko could be the next Kurt Warner or Tom Brady, you know, getting the job because of injury and doing great, I say bring in another veteran. Load the team up and lets go to the finish line!!!

Re: One last weakness!
Until we can name somebody that's better than what we have, I'd say leave it alone. So far there's no one out there that I think is much better than the ones we have. Naybe after tomorrows cuts there MIGHT be someone but so far Nahhhhhhhhhhhh. At least the ones we have know the playbook and system.

Re: One last weakness!
Go get Leftwich. Far fetched...but i'd love that type of insurance for one year.

Re: One last weakness!
Dirk Koetter tried to install a saints type offense in jacksonville this year and i'd say thats one of the main reasons Leftwich is no longer there. When he has to pass, he is down right bad. And I guarentee you, if Palko gets cut, the Jags will be first in a line of three or four teams to sign him. Give the kid a year or two behind a healthy Brees and he will be ready to go for the next 10-15 years.

I still think Leftwich can get it done and I think his athleticism and conditioning are better than they have been. He's an accurate QB and a leader. But JoeSam is right, the timing is lousy and it's too close to the start of the season to bring him w/out a camp or pre-season and expect him to learn overnight.
I say let some other team trade for him, hope that his stock drops further, then next year in FA we pick him up cheap and Payton rejuvenates him. |

Re: One last weakness!
What is Indy without Payton? What is GreenBay without Favre? What is Pats without Brady? etc., etc... in deep doodoo, thats what. Same with Saints without Brees. If Brees goes down we`re @#&$'ed just like these and several other teams would be without their star QB. Jamie Martin is about as good as you could expect for a #2 QB. I can think of about 4 teams off the top of my head that Martin would qualify as their starter.
Brees' most vulnerable time for injury was last season, I think (pray) he`ll do fine. |
