I guess the argument on the sidelines that Payton & Pittman had probably had some bearing on his being cut?(That and Pierre Thomas flat out wanted it more)

I believe all 4 of the players mentioned in the first post are eligible for the practice squad. My big shocker is Evans. You can't tell me Fincher had a better offseason and preseason than he did.

I seriously doubt Pittman will clear waivers....thats alot of teams to pass on him.....

I agree. I cannot imagine why we would keep Fincher over Evans. Also, Pittman will never come back to our PS IMO. He will likely end up on Cincinnati's active roster or another team's PS. Why sign to our PS when we have one of the best RB corps in the NFL?

If these cuts are true we are going to be keeping P. Thomas, Stecker, and six receivers in my opinion. Lots of skill players. Lots of guys who can play special teams. i.e. Copper, Bush, Stecker, Thomas, Moore, maybe Meacham.

From what I heard on the replay of the game this morning, they said that Payton said he was going to keep the 53 best players and he didn't care when or in what spot they were drafted. He was going to keep players that showed that they wanted to play. Pittman was even mentioned, so if he got cut it really wouldn't surprise me. Thomas clearly showed he wanted it more than Pittman. I think Pittman realized to late that just because he was drafted and Thomas wasn't, he had a slot locked up.I like the way Payton thinks, show me you want the job and it's yours, I don't care how you got here. Look at Lance Moore, he showed he wanted it and looks like he's a lock for the final 53, so too is Pierre Thomas if you ask me. He surley showed he wanted the job. I like the fact that we will have 53 players that want to be onthat field every down and will be damned mad if they're not. Just give me the damned ball. Sound familier?Give me 53 players like that and i'll show you the way to the Super Bowl!


P.S. If it's true that they cut Palko, you can bet Payton has somebody in mind to replace him already and it will probably surprise all of us. Hang on to your hats boys and girls.

Wow was I completely wrong at Payton keeping Pittman because he was our 4th rounder. I hope he makes it to our practice squad as well as Jones.

Reaching the NFL-mandated active roster limit of 53, the New Orleans Saints waived 12 players Saturday and terminated the contract of defensive end Anton Palepoi, Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced. The 12 players waived were safety Curry Burns, guard Tim Duckworth, fullback Kevin Dudley, defensive end Willie Evans, wide receiver Tramain Hall, cornerback David Jones, linebacker Marvin Mitchell, quarterback Tyler Palko, cornerback Anwar Phillips, running back Antonio Pittman, safety Chris Reis and guard Dave Yovanovits.

Is Karney our only fullback? I'm not sure I am too comfrotable with that idea. Especially with what happened to us during the Cleveland game last year.

Hey, i'm just telling you what I heard. I didn't say it. I'm not really sure Evans was cut. I've only seen it in one place. ESPN. He wasn't listed in the final 12 cuts. So unless he was cut by himself, then it might not be true. Who knows. I'm surprised he didn't make it too.

WOW! They kept 4 TE's on the roster and McKinley Boykin made it. Also, like a bad penny we just can't get rid of Fred Thomas. It's good to see Pierre Thomas made it as well as Bellamy. I think our Special Teams are going to kill people this year.

Hey, he cut our 4th and 5th rounders. That's good if you don't want to play or there are better players available, take a hike. I like it. Go ahead Payton. You've got to admit, he did pretty well last year. Let's hope he does as good this year. I think he will.

Dudley still might make the practice squad, we'll know tomorrow. Even at that, if he doesn't make it, we can use one of our 4 tight ends as a fullback. Having only Karney doesn't bother me to much.

Wow 4th,5th and 7th round picks cut. Bad draft. At least they cut the losses now instead of later. Pittman and Mitchell never sat good with me since draft day. I understood them but thought there was better picks there. Surprised, yes I am. Bummed. no

well let see what the PS is going to look like.

i hope that before next years draft they take a video of these picks, put it in a coffin and bury it like they did last season, cause that's just rough lol. i suppose that will make the coaches and scouts study up even harder.

I agree. It's tough to swallow but at least they're not so stubborn that they'll keep duds on the team out of arrogance.

What about the QB situation? Why cut Palko? Now our only other option is Martin ( God he is awful)

I'm sure Palko will get picked up on the PS if he clears waivers. Our only other realistic option if Brees goes down was Martin all along. You don't think Palko would actually have played do you?

i'll bet all is not cemented by a long shot......
we should be looking for help on the cuts taking place
and may even be looking to trade a few.....
you gotta love the straight forwardness of payton
and crew to cut loses and move on.

actually yes. Rookie yea sure. His passes are far more crisp than Martin's any day of the week. Fife and Palko should be on this roster and Martin gone. Maybe Martin gives better BJ's.

In the long run you give him more practice and reps his upside is way larger than an aging no body.

Fife & Palko? That would be insane. You'd have no #2 QB. You'd have a starter and two #3 QBs.

You don't need upside in a #2 QB. You need somebody that knows what to do. Face it, if we lose Drew for very long, it's going to be a tough season. Neither Palko nor Martin are going to step in and do what #9 does. You want somebody to hold things together until Brees can get back on the field. That guy isn't Tyler Palko. Not this year. Next year, maybe.

Also I disagree with the premise that Martin is horrible. Again, he's not Brees but who is? He did pretty well in preseason for a backup.

Fred Thomas not getting cut surprises me some..
Doesn't make much since to me as to why he made the team this season..

Palko is a lock for the PS. What team will pick up an undrafted QB that has not been in their camp?

There are a lot of draft picks cut every year. We did not have a lot of spots available, and we had some great FA signings. We were not going to have every pick make it.

Palko is a very good young QB, and Payton likes him and likes working with him alot. I wouldnt be surprised if he is on the oster by next season. BTW wheres' Fife?

Mitchell has surprised me w/his coverage skills. He has gotten so much better

Dudley unfortunately tried for a spot behind one of the best in the NFL. Bright futurefor this kid, seriously

Hi all,
New to the boards, it's nice to meet all of you..
I have been reading the boards now for about a month.
And I need to ask, why is everyone bashing Martin? If i remember correctly he was a back up for the rams. When Bulger went down he came in and did a pretty good job. Went like 3-1 or 4-2 something like. I dont think the rams made the playoff that year but is was not because of him. I could be wrong, I am trying to go by memory. I have very poor internet, so it makes it hard for me look stuff up.
Anyways, nice meeting all of you.

I agree with you. He is the best we got. I think the board as a group is waiting for sean to find the next Romo. It took 3 years to develope Romo. Typical fans that we are we all wanted it done yesterday.
Martin is a free agent next year so lets hope some thing happens soon. Maybe Byron could be had for cheep.
