this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I still actually think that David isn't our biggest problem. It is our weakness against the middle and middle zone run that is our biggest problem....

Re: Reality Check: The Colts
How about this for a reality check? In the first four games each year from 2004-2006, the Colts went 11-1, scoring an average of 27 points per game. That includes 3 wins over the Jaguars and their allegedly Colts-crushing defense. Their only loss in those games was 27-24 in New England in 2004.
This is a fast-starting team. I guess the definition of a Reality Check is when you realize your expectations were too high, and that was the case on Thursday for Saints fans, players, and apparently coaches too. Another aspect of the game that I haven't seen mentioned here is the presence of Bob Sanders on the Colts' defense. Last year in the playoffs, everyone was talking about how his return for the playoffs made them so much better. Well, he was there on Thursday and they looked pretty good to me. I don't think anybody expected Ugoh to hold up as well as he did against Smith. I think we were all counting on some pass rush to help our coverage guys. We still have a good team--just not as good as the Colts. On the bright side, we can pretty much count on all our division rivals losing to them as well. |
