Drew Brees' Replacement!
The only offensive position the Saints should draft next year is a quarterback. A tall, smart young QB who can make most, if not all the throws.
Not so he can come in and take Drew's spot...But so he can learn from Drew. The Saints can get more out of Drew Brees than just his on the field play. Drew is good in this scheme. He reads coverages pretty well, and gets rid of the ball quickly. Both of those are traits that a young QB could benefit from watching. Phillip Rivers' time behind Brees' seem to be very beneficial. I understand that he was a top 5 pick, but it has been plenty of first round QBs taken that can barely make rosters (Tim Couch). Rivers was able to step right in and perform at a pretty good level, and lead a very talented team to a 14 win season. Like I say, I'm not trying to replace Drew at all. But If there is a valuable QB in the 3rd or 4th round I think we should try and take em' and spend the rest of our draft picks on the DEFENSE (please). Even though I do like Palco, I don't think his "Gun Slinger" style is compatible with the style of offense that we run here in the N.O. I watched and liked him at Pitt, and it seems like he favors the "vertical" style of offense better. So...If we get a chance to use the teaching abilities of a Drew Brees...we should. I watched the Dallas Cowboys (who I really dislike) not draft a qb to replace Troy Aikman for years, dispite the public's out cry. And it took them ten years to find Romo. We need to be procative....so when Drew decides to step down or we need to replace him...we are not left hanging like so many other teams that loose good quaterbacks are. Let's take advantage of our talent in more than just one way. Draft a replacement, before we NEED to. Real Talk... |

Re: Drew Brees' Replacement!
I don't see anything or anyone just yet to fall to us. I'd rather build our damn OL and DL. URGENT. I think we can give Palko a shot and groom him up. But there is a lot of time between now and then to even take a serious look at the situation. Palko seems to me has that "it" factor that is hard to find in some QB's, thats why I'd be more inclinded to take our chances on him for another year or so.
Hell we can all clean house in a couple of more years when we run Sean Payton out of town. |

Re: Drew Brees' Replacement!
First off, I think we're jumping the gun talking about the draft...but I can't resist. I think the team needs a power RB to replace Deuce in a couple of years. Reggie has to have that to be effective. But that's the 2009 draft. Next year...CB and LB please. Don't let the next Posluzny slip away.

I don't remember the last time the Saints organization had their own team commercial that runs nationally when the Saints aren't even playing (Visa). We have a unique opportunity to make some noise in this league for a long time, if the Front Office plays it right. But really...I'm just talking sports with you boys |

Round 2
Matt Ryan, 6' 4" 221, Boston College Right now Ryan is my #1 pick. But that would be a high to mid 2 to get him. If he fell into our laps I would love the pick. doubt it happens Colt Brennan, 6' 2" 198, Hawaii Colt a system guy or what? Round 3 Andre' Woodson, 6' 5" 232, Kentucky Woodson has the tools but it is hard to judge with the team he is on. Nate Longshore, 6' 5", 233, California Longshore is my #2 right now. I know few have him this high but I think he is a big time climber this year. Round 4 John David Booty, 6' 2" 208, USC Booty I am not sold on. Booty is usually first too Chad Henne, 6' 2" 223, Michigan Henne has not done much so far to be picked in the 4th. Eric Ainge, 6' 5" 220, Tennessee Ainge I have to see more of before I say a thing about him. Matt Flynn, 6' 2" 229, LSU Flynn should climb through out the season. Thats why Flynn has my interest. Lets see how the season goes. I think he all those small things to make a great QB. Right now his #3 Then you have those small school kids. the kid from Appalachian St., can not remember his name looks interesting. I don't know if mentally he could handle our system though. |

Good work Hagan!!
From that list I like Booty, and Brennan. Ainge is ok. But I wouldn't mind Armanti Edwards from APP State, or the Oregon QB. |
