Nice post, Cad. Very sobering too.

There are a couple of things I disagree with, however. The defense does NOT suck. They are not great by any means, but they are not awful either. They've given up big plays when they're kept on the field a lot. They're good enough to keep us in it when they're fresh. When they're forced to rush right back on the field after our offense continually fails us, they get tore up. That happens to most defenses and considering our defense is a very pedestrian middle-of-the-road unit, they get tore up more than many.
The coaches know that about the D, but they planned this group as a TEAM. The offense was supposed to actually show up, sustain long drives, put points on the board, capture the lead, etc. With that expectation, you don't need the greatest defense. Since the offense is AWFUL right now, our very average defense is catching all the heat.

I saw Keyshawn and Tuna on SC last night talking about the Saints. Keyshawn made three points:
1. Deuce needs to get the ball 25-30x a game. (that's from a WR)
2. The O Line has to protect the passer.
3. The receivers are young and in need of leadership, and Patten may not enough of a contributor to do that.

Parcells said: The back seven on D have to improve for anything to get better.

I'm paraphrasing of course, but that all sounds familiar.

I truly understand this point. The only reason that I agreed they "suck" is not about the points the giving up...it's how there're giving them up....BIG PLAYS.

But this is why I say "Everybody is right". Its all perception. So many things are wrong. Different people see different things.
