You could have a mind reading Champ Bailey in the backfield and if the D line doesn't get pressure then unless your whole D backfield is a mind reading Champ Bailey YOU WILL NOT WIN GAMES. However if we have an O line we can stay on the field longer, sustain drives, and keep the opposing Offense off the field and we can recreate last year. If we want to keep a high performing team we need an O line and a D line. |

Re: The Draft
our DE's are rushing the outside, like they are supposed to do, but when we have no force or push in the middle, all the QB has to do is take a step forward. Watch film the past couple games, Grant and Smith come flying on the outside and the QB just steps forward to avoid them and complete the pass. A great push inside will give the QB no where to go with our DE's owning the outsides.....

Look back at the Titans game, Drew could never just step up, Haynesworth had an amazing push just about every play. Just because we perform well against the run does not mean our DT's are playing well and our DE's are playing bad. |

Re: The Draft
watch the film on the game....see how many times the QB just steps forward to avoid the rush......and look at the QB's we have played against so far. Manning, one of the fewest sackd qb's in recent years, and 2 mobile qb's in Garcia and Young. I think most of the problem is the DT getting no push.....WhoDatQB said it best, they are staying in their lanes, but that has nothing to do with push........easy to stop runners, but gives QB's plenty of room behind the line...I may be barking up the wrong tree, but yer no where near the right forest buddy

is this all really happening????

Re: The Draft
I'm thinking about limiting all of this "next year", "free-agents", and "draft" B.S., when we have only played three games. Yeah, we've lost all three of them and I'm as ticked as everyone else, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel and start talking about next year, and who we're going to draft, or what FA do we need to sign.

Re: The Draft
Well one comes to a forum to discuss the games, players, teams and whatever else we want to discuss about our team. There isn't anything wrong about discussing the future of the team and the direction we should move towards.
I personlly am tired of saying year after year what we should do and get jumped on by people because we should get a CB we need a LB, and the Reggie crap. We have done it your way we got reggie we did this, we did that... WAKE UP! We need an OL and a DL from hell! No CB, no LB, no QB, no RB can fix our woes if we don't have a dominating o-line and d-line. They are the ones that control the game, clock and protect and buy your key players time. We have to sacrafice a couple of years and work on the damn lines already. |

Re: The Draft
I understand all your arguments... But could we maybe draft a CB in the first round some time before I die to just see if that helps our defense????

Re: The Draft
Or maybe a franchsie QB.
Can you believe the saints have drafted just one CB (Alex Molden) and one QB (Archie Manning) in their history? NFL Draft History: First Round by Team |

Re: The Draft
Although I was tempted to vote for LB or OT (especially with Jake Long), I cast my vote for Defensive Tackle. Why? Well, the first reason is because of Glenn Dorsey. Second, because it's been a position that this franchise has flat out ignored for about a decade. Third, because previous posters are absolutely right, we need a push up the middle as well as from the edges. You can't have two crap defensive tackles (which Hollis and our street free agents are playing like) and expect to control the line of scrimmage. Put GD in there and see how much it frees up Will Smith and Charles Grant. Also, we can't stop the f***ing run up the middle. It's embarrassing and perhaps the most frustrating thing to watch when LenDale "My Coach Calls me Fat" White is pounding it all over you because you don't have anybody in the middle who can stop him. Think about it: Glenn Dorsey, Will Smith, Charles Grant, Hollis Thompson. Woooooo. That's a line that can dominate the trenches, don't you think?
