Kicker Olindo Mare was the only other player not to participate in Thursday's practice. Mare strained his groin during Wednesday's practice. Payton said punter Steve Weatherford would replace Mare if the team was in a pinch once Sunday arrived.

Weatherford(according to Fujita) is the only one playing worth a crap, maybe this isn't such a bad idea.

If Mare is really hurt, I can almost guarantee they will probably bring in another kicker tomorrow, unless Weatherford has shown some sign that he can actually kick field goals. Since no one has been brought in yet, I would suspect Mare is going to be alright for Sunday. At least a kicker does not need to learn anything about a system, just needs to be able to kick. That is why bringing a guy in the day before a game is not really out of the question.

They called me, but they only offered a couple of million for one game. I told them, if they promised to win I would consider it. Oh well, so much for dreams.
