Payton on Sirius YESTERDAY
Payton on Sirius this morning
I was listing on the way home form work this morning when Payton came on. I can't type word for word so I will just do my best to tell you what he said. To start he thought we played well on D for the most part except for one play. That one play sticks in his mind and he said he can't get past it. That play was Smith getting the 1st down on a 3rd and 10 in the final drive for the game winning field goal. (I think I remember that was Thomas defending) Then he went into all the dropped passes without naming names. Talked about the drop that became an interception, noted about 4 - 5 drops in the red zone that cost us. mentioned the penalty on Brown (did not say it was BS like I thought it was) and that we kept hurting ourselves in the red zone. Talked about our kicking game and said that we have to get the points when we are in field goal range. Then went back to the wide receivers and said that he has a stable of WR and will make changes to correct the problem and at kicker as well. Said to him it is insanity to keep doing the same thing with out making changes and expect a different outcome. Said certain people had been warned about poor play and he will do what is necessary. Said the staff is to talented to continue to allow the miscues and mistakes that are happening. He said he felt that he has the right guy under center and that it is people around him that are not living up to their part. He said he thought the O line played much better and he thought the D played well for the most part. Said we have a very tough game against the Seahawks coming up and that he has a lot to fix. To me it sounds like Mare and Henderson are done. I don't know if he can find a kicker at this time of the year be he sounds like he doesn't care about dropping Henderson and starting someone else. |

I know they want to win, they just aren't. They thought this team the way it is was able to win.

Are you kidding me?
Excuse me for being pessimistic here, but should ALL of these issues been addressed during the BYE week? Sorta like saying you're closing the barn door, when everyone knows the cow's already out! Just a statement of the obvious is nothing more than lip service as far as I'm concerned, if we're seeing the same ol' product that has been on the field since week one! |

Re: Payton on Sirius YESTERDAY
Sounds like same-ole same-ole to me too. Changes should be made every week. Evaluations/analyzations should be ongoing, and if someone is slacking, snatch him. If his replacement outperforms him, let him ride until he EARNS his spot back. If a guy comes off the bench and makes a good play, from where I sit, he has earned another chance on the next play. All the schemes now have gotten so complicated that only certain guys can play during these certain situations and it takes away a guy who is making plays simply because he is not part of the "nickel package". BACK TO BASICS boys. Throw the 630 page play book out and let the guys that are hitting and making plays PLAY. Eleven guys - you can count them on both hands when excluding yourself. SEAN - please! Simplify the blocking scheme, simplify the coverages, and LET guys make plays.
