Saints | Team may release Mare
Tue, 9 Oct 2007 16:38:14 -0700 Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints may release PK Olindo Mare. Saints head coach Sean Payton said, "Part of that position is having confidence, and right now I'm struggling (with it). It's disappointing. There's a lot of blame to go around here, and it's not just the kicker. There are a handful of positions that we need to evaluate closely and make sure we're playing the right guys. That starts with me, and we'll do that this week." |

Hey, if they can find someone that can hit his butt with at least one hand i'll be glad. I once was one the Mare bandwagon but............. if you can't hit the feild goals you need to go. I still say we need to resign Tom Dempsey.

I don't wish the guy any hard times but also being a Dolphin fan.......my patience with him ran out a while ago. Bring on some accuracy!

Re: saints may release mare........
I knew Mare wasn't an accurate FG kicker since years ago. I figured we wouldn't need many long field goals, and I figured the indoor surface would help him out. I think he never was able to gain any confidence since the beginning of the preseason. I really miss Carney, he was a true Saint like Deuce is.

Re: saints may release mare........
I was a Dolphin season ticket holder from 2000-2004 and I witnessed first hand Mare missing one kick after another. I also remember him missing a game winner against the Patriots one year and he blamed it on the infield dirt from the Marlins game.....Owner Wayne Huizenga blamed the loss on Mare.......They talked about cutting that guy every year. I think the reason they kept him on was because he was a local guy and helped out in the community.
