REGGIE STIRRING UP RESENTMENT

With all the talk lately of Reggie Bush's off-field interests and exploits, at least one of his teammates has been motivated to offer up some private criticism.

In the wake of the news that Bush has parted ways with marketing agent Mike Ornstein, the teammate said, "Reggie needs to stop worrying about f--king Hollywood and focus on rushing for more than 100 yards in a game."

Ouch.

It's harsh, but it's not surprising. The whole "Saint Reggie" image and the millions in non-football money is certain to prompt some of the other 52 guys in the locker room not to like him -- especially when his production is languishing behind other running backs drafted in 2006, and some of the ones drafted in 2007.

Re: Reggie Stirring Up Resentment

Since the source of this "comment" didn't come with a name, I don't buy it. But if somebody on the Saints roster was stupid enough to say something like this, this would be my reply;

#1 - Reggie is a Heisman trophy winner and gets alot of attention. So what, he doesn't come off as a jerk about it.
#2 - If Reggie got 25 touches, he'd have 100 yard games. Not only that, he does have 100+ yard games if you include his total offense production.
#3 - Reggie has done everything he's been asked to do.
#4 - If we had 21 other players that tried as hard as Reggie, my guess is we'd be better than 4-4.
#5 - We don't need crap like this in the SAINTS locker room.

Right on, leave my Reggie Bush alone, he's not bothering anyone, let him be.

Considering the source, I'm not real sure this is true. I can't think of any player on the Saints roster that would say anything like this. Besides,I really don't think Payton would allow something like this.

As far as the 100 yards per game rushing, he might get that if he wasn;t so involved in the passing game. It's hard to take a handoff when you're split out. Or am I wrong?

I believe you are correct. I'm glad we have Reggie. He IS a major contributor to this team (because he does get alot of yards, they're just not all from hand-offs, not to mention the decoy effect), and I think he fits great with Payton's offensive game plan.

Re: Reggie Stirring Up Resentment

I agree that the profootballtalk site has a reputation of making stuff up, but I will say that in the past couple of years their stuff has been pretty much accurate. When they are wrong, they do fess up. I agree that if Bush was handed the ball a little more, instead of being used on pass plays, his running numbers would go up. To me, it doesn't matter how Bush gets his touches, as long as he gets them. I can definitely see at least one or two guys mouthing off about him "off the record". That is why I would imagine the source was not revealed. My guess, it was really said, and it was probably someone on defense. I don't think this is going to be an issue for the Saints, as long as the alleged guy who said it doesn't come forward.
