It seems alot of times when other teams are stacking our line, it would've been easily countered by a timely audible to the TE or a short-slant receiver. Has anyone else noticed the lack of audibles? Just an observation.

I don't think he has a lot of options due to the plays that are called. A lot of the routes are designed to where there are those routes designed in the play. Which I do think helps make Brees successful and hide the major flaws with out line. When teams take certain things from us then the flaws show, like pass protection.

They use so much passing that it limits what you can do to audible out of and into a run play because you don't have the personel on the field.

Yup, if you're in a 5 or 4 wide set what can you audible to? There's gotta be a lot of "hot routes" built in.

So is one to assume that since the 'hot routes' are built into the plays, alot of our receivers aren't on the same page in pressure situations? It seems that the only one that comes clean when Drew is running for his life is Patton.

Your WR has to know what to do in order to be free for the 'hot route'. Patton a Vet I'd say he knows. Thats why it takes years for a WR to develop into being a go to guy. When you have a hot route on, its 'one' WR who is on the route and the go to guy not all of the WR's go into a hot route situation the others have to carry out the other routes and set up for some blocks.

In the Saints offense you will notice when there is a hot route involved when Brees takes the quick drop back (3 step), which he uses A LOT! He may not elect to use the hot route depending on whats going on with the defense. So you will see him go through his 'progression' looking for his first option and then his second and then dumping off.

The 5 and 7 step drop backs have been nothing but doom for us this year due to the protection. We haven't been successful using long pass plays cause we don't have the time for the WR to get downfield.

Defenses can take away the 'hot route' if they read it so keep that in mind as well. Hot routes aren't always successful routes if they are picked up and defended against.

Thanks Euphoria, I was a defensive player my whole football career so the offense eludes me at times. I was the one who would rather hit than be hit. :)

I was a RB, I thought it more fun to try and not let the big guys catch me.

Drew Brees is suppose to look to pass first, but if all of the receivers are covered, and there's an hugh running lane to get a first down, than Drew should run. Drew want do that, he's scared to get his arm damaged.
