A List of Players The Saints will Never Sign:
PFW’s 10 free agents to watch
Nov. 13, 2007 Not all free agents are created equal. In the cutthroat world of the NFL, some are looked on as franchise cornerstones, while others are merely footnotes on a transactions page. From athletic marvels to legal deviants to consummate professionals, no two players offer an identical package. As voted on by the PFW editors, here are the 10 most intriguing free agents-to-be, all of whom bear following as the season progresses. 1. WR Randy Moss, New England Patriots New England won’t shell out top dollar for Moss, but he may decide to remain with the Pats, regardless. 2. SS Bob Sanders, Indianapolis Colts Look no further than a healthy Sanders as the biggest reason for the Colts’ defensive turnaround. 3. DT Albert Haynesworth, Tennessee Titans Vilified in 2006 for cleating Andre Gurode’s face, Haynesworth is now abusing O-linemen the right way. 4. CB Asante Samuel , New England Patriots Immune to being franchised again, Samuel will have a hoard of suitors longing for his signature. 5. LB Lance Briggs, Chicago Bears Equally abusive to ballcarriers and automobiles, Briggs has been better than teammate Brian Urlacher in ’07. 6. RB Michael Turner, San Diego Chargers LaDainian Tomlinson’s understudy is too explosive to remain a No. 2 option in San Diego. 7. OG Alan Faneca, Pittsburgh Steelers Faneca didn’t get the extension he was seeking in Pittsburgh, so it’s nearly certain he’s gone in 2008. 8. TE Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts The versatile Clark is a better bet to receive a long-term deal in Indy than teammate Bob Sanders. 9. LB Terrell Suggs, Baltimore Ravens Despite sagging sack numbers, Suggs is on pace to set a career high in tackles. 10. CB Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland Raiders Rarely tested by opposing quarterbacks, Asomugha has yet to nab an interception after eight picks in ’06. Re: A List of Players The Saints will Never Sign:
I agree that the Saints would not sign any of these players. Even with all their woes on defense, I would say that the Saints should try to sign RB Michael Turner. He could be the most significant signing in terms of wins. He could be the Deuce replacement. The guy is big and fast, and does not have very much wear and tear on his body. That would also get Reggie Bush back to the roll he excels at.

3. DT Albert Haynesworth, Tennessee Titans
Vilified in 2006 for cleating Andre Gurode’s face, Haynesworth is now abusing O-linemen the right way. I think he has a shoot if the titians do not sign him. Yes he did loose it but he has been a model citizen. He is one of the least penalized DT in the league. He has that something the Defense is missing. Attitude. I hope the Saints believe in second chances because he has done his part. 4. CB Asante Samuel , New England Patriots Immune to being franchised again, Samuel will have a hoard of suitors longing for his signature. LOL will the Saints open the vault for a CB in 2008? I doubt it. But the bargin hunting has to stop soon. With the CB in this year draft I would guess your right. 5. LB Lance Briggs, Chicago Bears Equally abusive to ball carriers and automobiles, Briggs has been better than teammate Brian Urlacher in ’07. Another big ticket item. He is in the same boat as Samuel. Will the Saints finally stop shopping for defenders at the Kmart Blue light special rack? 6. RB Michael Turner, San Diego Chargers LaDainian Tomlinson’s understudy is too explosive to remain a No. 2 option in San Diego. I am not to sure about this one. He has had the fumbles and bumbles this year. Alot rides on Drew I bet. 7. OG Alan Faneca, Pittsburgh Steelers Faneca didn’t get the extension he was seeking in Pittsburgh, so it’s nearly certain he’s gone in 2008. Pitt is almost as cheap as us. I bet he will get good money but we may pull the trigger here. He would almost finish off the OL rebuilding. A lot rides on Andy. The amount of time he has been on the field IMO means he needs at least 2 more years to make it as a starter. 9. LB Terrell Suggs, Baltimore Ravens Despite sagging sack numbers, Suggs is on pace to set a career high in tackles. Now he fits the present spending ideals that Saints have. Old and cheap. 10. CB Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland Raiders Rarely tested by opposing quarterbacks, Asomugha has yet to nab an interception after eight picks in ’06. Interesting player. Depends on market value. He may out price himself. Well I disagree about a few. But most I agree with. The saints I think are learning they are good but they need to spend cash on Vets that are not in the twilight of their playing time in the NFL. I hope. If anything I hope they finish rebuilding the offense. This could be the end of the Duce era for the Saints. What happens with Duce will determine alot for the future. |

I say we go after Deangelo Hall and Haynesworth. Briggs and Samuel will be too expensive. I'd like Suggs for the right price, but Drew may be "sore" about it

Haynesworth is an animal. I would love to see him on our team, you don't NEED linebackers with him in the game.

Re: A List of Players The Saints will Never Sign:
haynesworth is the best free agent we can get, it can help overshadow the fact we have very very average linebackers, and that we probably end signing some half a** db that can play man to man........dang i just realize im still bitter about jason david

Re: A List of Players The Saints will Never Sign:
It would be ironic to steal one from the Falcons (Deangelo Hall) after all the ones they have gotten from us over the years. He would instantly become the #1 man and give our backfield some credibility. But given SP's track record, we won't address this during FA and draft a Division IA CB who "shows" potential in the 6th round. (Yes boys, this chaps me. We haven't drafted a first day CB since Alex Molden. Why?)

Re: A List of Players The Saints will Never Sign:
Someone that the article didn't mention is Michael Boley the WLB from ATL. He's a RFA and is young and talented, so I doubt Petrino lets him go, but I'll have my eye on him.
I'd really like to see Faneca and if the team rolls out some cheddar for anyone, I could see it being him. Nesbit's a free agent at the end of the year, he said "this is my last year in Pitt", he's from NO, went to LSU, and at 31 on 12/7 has enough in the tank to mentor Allman for a couple of seasons. I'd love Briggs, but like Turner, the line to talk to him will be long. I wonder about Samuel or any Pats player. They always seem to suck when they leave. Suggs would be out of place here, so this one will probably go through. |
