Testaverde’s back had tightened up.
Although Testaverde tried everything medically possible to loosen it up over the next 24 hours, it never happened and Fox was forced to go with struggling David Carr. That, despite the fact Carr hadn’t taken any reps at all with the first team in practice last week.

“If it didn’t hurt so bad, it would be laughable,” coach John Fox said of the team’s quarterback woes following Carolina’s fifth straight loss, a 31-6 thrashing by the Saints.
