LoE's key to the game, free of charge.

It is the defensive coordinator's single task...

To figure out a way, to find some sort of viable scheme, that will never leave Jason David alone on a receiver. Period. If he does this, I think we have a great chance. If he doesn't, I think we're toast.

Glad I could be of service.

Re: Can The Coaches Repeat This Enough This Week?!?

Best defense is a good offense. Let's do what we did in the Carolina game. Run, run, and keep running - even if it doesn't look like it's working. Remain patient. Then, we rip 'em for the big passes later on.

The more we keep the ball, the less chance the opposing team has to score. Our defense suffers when they're on the field for too long.

On to the defense:

Blitz, Blitz, Blitz with Press Coverage. We have a hard time covering receivers. So, don't give the QB time to throw it and jam the receivers at the line to disrupt their route. If you do this, the chance of them beating us for a long pass is very slim. (See Eagles Vs. Patriots on MNF) We've proven to be a good run defense team, so we should be able to accomodate for our focus on defending the pass.

Keep Hollis Thomas in there as long as he isn't gassed. Believe it or not, he's just as good of a pass rusher as he is a run stopper. He may not make the sack, but he will disrupt the line, give chase, and free up another player to have a chance for a sack.

If we do this properly, we shouldn't have a problem with Jason David. What we need to do with David, though, is to make him jam receivers and try to force them to the sidelines - similar to what was done to Steve Smith.

We managed to contain Smith all day - granted, his QB was garbage and couldn't get the ball to him. Garcia is going to be much more capable, so don't give him time.

If we play aggressive enough, we may be able to force some turnovers on defense. If we run effectively, we should be able to eliminate some turnovers on our offense, since they mainly come from the passing game. A balanced offense will stop our team from looking so predictable and will keep the Buc's D off-balance - something that's crucial to win this game. If our formations continue to be so obvious (empty backfields when passing, full when running - with NO variation) like they were before the Panthers game, the Tampa D is going to eat our offensive line up. Our O-line isn't that great, but they look decent when we keep the defense guessing.

That's my understanding, my opinion of what we should do.

I'm confident we can stop the run as we've done practically all year. If Galloway doesn't score, I say we take this game.

Definately need to put the banged up Garcia right back on his behind.

I can buy into blitzing - as long as Jason David isn't left alone. I can buy into keeping Hollis in there until he's almost gassed - as long as Jason David isn't left alone. I can buy running the ball more - as long as Jason David isn't left alone.

Am I making my point? lol

Re: Can The Coaches Repeat This Enough This Week?!?

I can live with Galloway getting 10 catches as long as none of them are bombs or bombs for TD's. I am sick of watching this guy run past our secondary and single handledly beating us.

I don't care what we have to do, put three people on him, whatever. Just don't let Galloway beat us deep. You know they are going to try to throw it deep to him, probably early on or even the first play of the game to get us in a hole. We cannot allow this to happen. They don't have Cadillac this time and we should focus all of our energy on shutting down Galloway the way the Pats shut down Moss last night. McKenzie should follow Galloway wherever he goes and Jason David should never, I repeat NEVER be allowed to cover him.

Re: Can The Coaches Repeat This Enough This Week?!?

Moss was doubled and jammed all night. I think David and a safety can do the trick. Since we agree that David needs help, I'd use David and a safety on Galloway and leave McKenzie open to defend other WRs. You don't want McKenzie and a safety to double Galloway and chance leaving David alone with anyone - unless David can work the sideline and jam properly.

If that doesn't work and we get burnt once, then I'd go to McKenzie to guard Galloway. It's all opinion and strategy, though. Who knows?

I just prefer constructive discussions about things. It's better than "David sucks."

Gibbs is not a newbie. He should - and can - find a way to get David some help. Consistently. It can be done, and I suspect I'll see it.

Re: Can The Coaches Repeat This Enough This Week?!?

The problem I see in this game is that the defense has to stay disciplined. Garcia throws the ball well when flushed out of the pocket in fact I'd prefer if we kept him in the pocket which means the DE's have to keep containment and maybe throw in a couple safety blitzes or LB's. Maybe we can make David wear blinders where he can't look back at the QB only his receiver. Seriously, David can keep up with Galloway the problem will be if he keeps his eyes on him. Hell the Redskins kept him out of the endzone, just follow their gameplan.
