Since Payton has taken over the Saints are 10-0 when they run the ball at least 30 times in a game. Of course a lot of those wins came when we had #26 running the ball. Might be a good indication we need more balance and it sure makes all those play action passes more effective if we do run occasionally.
Like I say I have the memory of a person a little light in the brain cell category so if anyone else has seen this anywhere please enlighten me.

.. or, it may be a good indication that they were killing time in the 4th quarter after Brees torched the other team for 300+ yards and 30+ points.

You can't really base anything on those blanket statements, because they don't take into consideration the particular game situation when they occur.

Yes have to agree with you stats can be misleading and you can make them read anything you want from them. In a lot of cases where you win or going to win chances are you might have the ball more and can run more plays than your opponet. You lose the games because you aren't moving the ball making first downs ect (less oppitunites to run another play).

Re: 10-0

I think Jerry Glanville put it best, usually the team with the most rushing attempts wins. Doesn't matter what the yards or average per carry is. When I heard him say that a few years ago, I found that he was very much right about that. So, Payton going 10-0 with 30 or more carries is hardly a surprise. After taking a quick glance at the past Saints games from this year, it looks like the team with the most rushing attempts went 10-1. I guess all this really means is that if your offense is clicking, and scoring points, at some point you will try to eat up clock with the running game.

Re: 10-0

T-R's assessment is dead on. Payton runs the ball from ahead by two scores, which renders evaluating an effective ground game futile. I'd be interested in seeing rushing yards per series compensated by score. My bet is that that 30 odd rushing count is skewed dramatically, and that fewer rushing attempts are highly correlated to turnovers and (duh) score.

Re: 10-0

It's a simple case of cause and effect. If you want to run out the clock, you run more. If trying to catch up from way behind, you pass for the sidelines or the deep ball.

Do we win because we run more? Or do we run more because we're winning?

Re: 10-0

id say we win b/ we run more... if we arent running the ball well.. teams just sit back in that soft cover 2 zone and eat our passing game up b/c alot of our passing game comes off the play action

Pak? You're still alive??? I haven't seen a post from you in so long I'd figured you given up on football -- i.e. moved to Virginia, settled down with AB for a nice long retirement.

So welcome back Pak. What's new?

(sorry, whenever I think of not being involved with football, I can't help taking another shot at AB - I apologize).
