Coach Payton "Genius"
Author Lee Russakoff Comcast Sports
The term "genius" is thrown around way too lightly in the NFL. Joe Gibbs was hailed a genius for his three Super Bowl titles, but would a genius call two timeouts in a row and cost his team the game? My daughter knows you can't call two timeouts in a row in the NFL, and she hasn't even been conceived yet (she's a scratch golfer, by the way). After last year's incredible run, Sean Payton was the genius du jour. But does a genius run a reverse-counter toss on his own 37-yard line, with three minutes left in the game, leading by three points? Did the spirit of Rich Kotite possess Payton's body? The thing is, when you're in the Bottom 16, you already have the dearth of talent, intensity and character necessary to lose. There's no need for your coach to pile on with his own ineptitude. ... well, yet again, another pseudo-writer that just throws things out there.
Payton never got the label of "genius" last year. Guess this hack doesn't remember -or doesn't know - the label the entire Saints team got last year was that EMOTION carried them last year. It was the Jet's MANGINI who was declared the genius; Mangenious, anyone? |

Re: Coach Payton "Genius"
If they would listen to my genius we will be a dynasty for next 20 years. After that it is a day by day call cause I could cash it in anytime after that.
So you other would be geniuses; to the back of the bus, sit down, no horsing around and let me do the driving. |

Re: Coach Payton "Genius"
In hindsight it's always easy to judge what decisions people made. But the thing is that I'm sure none of us are in the positions these coaches are put in constantly. I'm not saying it wasn't a bad play call but it was a mistake. Get off Payton's back guys and let's get ready for the falcons game on Monday.

"But they forget that fact that I am a genius....
Payton said, "Hey, we got all that we can use." Now I got them... Steadily depressin', low down mind-messin' Rootin' with those bagheads blues." |
