What to do with OL?
Here is my latest blog:
What to do on the OL? - Black and Gold Forums I would really like to get input from everyone on this topic. It seems to be the most heated issue this year. I am not sold on my view points 100% and would like to get some ideas from everyone here as to what the saints need to do on the OL. If anyone can answer the questions about our draft choices from the last two years I would love to hear them. Boba? looking for something from you on this one if you got anything. This has nothing to do with agreeing with you or making you agree with me. It has to with options. The more detailed you get the better. Please do not just trash a player and leave. Lets hear solutions and why. I am going to use it to focus my FA and draft reviews for 2008. Yes I will do the same with the defense but that will be a long detailed one. LOL this one should be simple. I hope. Please post your solution/ideas there. It will be easier for me to get to Thanks |

Re: What to do with OL?
Well, overall I am fine with the Saints OL. I thought they made good draft selections in 07 with Bushrod and Alleman, fortunately there has not been a lot of injury issues so we still don't know what they can bring. I think it's pure gold having Strief and Goodwin as backups. Both these guys need to have their contracts extended. As for the starters, Brown started playing like an all pro again once he got over his nagging injury to begin the season. No issues with the rest of them, maybe an upgrade at center could be a possibility, but Faine is still a fine center.
I think that they are mislabeled as a group that doesn't run block very well. The things that have hurt the running game is lack of commitment, not using Karney on a regular basis as a lead blocker, and not to mention all of the Saints TE's are better pass catchers than blockers. As sorry as Ernie Conwell was catching easy passes, he was a pure bull of a blocker. So, overall my take would be to extend some contracts and try to keep this group intact. If there is a free agent stud available, by all means improve on what is already there. No one can argue that Brees usually gets plenty of time to throw, and when the running game is used properly, the Saints can actually get those 4 yards per carry. |
