Re: Should David Patten get re-signed in the offseason?
Hagan, I partially agree with you on your take about Henderson. Definitely he has been a disappointment. He was suppose to be that number 2 guy, and did not even come close to panning out in that roll. If he is willing to take number 3 guy type of money, then he definitely should stay. His roll as a deep threat is not easily replaced.
Yes, right now the Saints do not have a true number 2, but collectively, set in different packages, they seem to be able to overcome that. That is why I really think the Saints should try to keep their WR group together. The Saints really need to spend the "big" money on defense. McKenzie is going to be an unrestricted free agent, David has not lived up to his potential, and the Saints got about as many miles from their LB group as they are going to get. One last note, I too doubt that Henderson will be around next year. I seriously think some team is going to fall in love with his speed, and that he seems to have overcome his butter fingers in the second half of the season, and seriously overpay him. You think a team like Minnesota would welcome him about now? |

LOL I think Minnesota learned their lessons about taking on WR like that.

Re: Should David Patten get re-signed in the offseason?
With Branch, Burleson, and Engram on board in Seattle, I can see Hackett possibly leaving for greener pastures. Other names that jump out at me are Berrian (though he's said he wants to stay in Chicago) and Patrick Crayton. I would not be surprised if Payton/Loomis made a strong play for Crayton.

Re: Should David Patten get re-signed in the offseason?
i watched crayton on sunday...and don't get me wrong he HAS looked great...but he didn't look like he was trying at all. no passion, no WANT for the ball. did anyone else notice this? i was a huge proponent of his earlier...but i dunno now. thoughts?

1. Thank Henderson for his service and wish him well in his next gig. Personally I'd just man up and tell him he's not worth the big money and frankly he's obligated to test the FA market. 2. Resign Patton and install him as the #2 receiver. 3. Get Meachum ready to play. In other words, I wouldn't spend a lick of time on the receiver position this offseason. Now if another gem like Colston is lingering around in the later rounds of the draft, then maybe I spend a pick. Maybe. But free agents? Not unless they want to come play for the minimum. I just can't see justifying paying any more money for receivers right now. That's my nickel (inflation ya know?) to the convo. SFIAH |

Meacham..Meachem.......that guy who looked like he got a Tic Tac stuck in his epiglottis when the Saints called him on Draft Day?

That being said, I still think our WR corps is a little weak after Colston, and nobody on the FA market stands out to me. Moss is going to go somewhere for HUGE money, and I don't think Patrick Crayton's all that good. Patten (assuming he learns how to hold onto the ball) and Copper are GREAT third options (and Lance Moore is a very solid #4 guy), but we really seem to be missing that #2 option. In all honesty, I'm surprised that Meachem didn't even get a chance to play this season. It's not like any one of our receivers have been playing so lights out that Payton shouldn't want to let the rook start in front of them. The guy is obviously a very talented WR, and I'd like to see him get his shot to be the guy opposite Colston next year. |
