If Meachum (or whatever his name is... for god sake's, are we ever going to see him?) will be the #2, do we have room for him and Henderson? Moore and Copper are odd men out. And, don't think they won't draft another one, right?

Re: Should David Patten get re-signed in the offseason?
Patten should have another couple of solid years ahead of him. A two year extension would be about right for him. Matter of fact I think the Saints should also try to lock up Devery Henderson for a few more years. If the Saints can keep the current group intact, it would be one less thing to worry about during free agency, and at draft time. With Colston the undisputed number 1 guys, the rest of the guys should not be overly expensive to keep. It would be also be a big plus for Drew Brees to have all his guys back. I know one argument about this would be that the Saints are leading the league in dropped passes. Most of that is a direct result of Brees throwing a league high number of times, the early woes by Devery Henderson who was playing out of position earlier in the year, and a not so physically right Reggie Bush who also arguably has been playing out of position since Deuce went down.

Re: Should David Patten get re-signed in the offseason?
Henderson has done nothing to justify the money he gets paid. He stays with a major pay cut. Even then I doubt it. If not he will walk. I look for one additional FA to sign with the along with Patten. None of the others have really stood out. They are all the same. A bunch of #4's trying to be a #3. Patten is a #3 trying to be a #2. So in steps Mech'em next year as a #2? Nah he will be a #4 to start the season. He needs to get on the field an play first.
Look for the saints to address the #2 WR spot in the off season. With the plans that one year later Mech will be ready to take over the #2 and the FA to slide back to the #3. Patten to be our #4. |

Patten should definitely be re-signed. The guy has played very well in most games this year.
Let Henderson go. WAAAAY too inconsistent to depend on. Bring in Meachem and I believe that the receivers will be a better group next year. Shoot, I wish that they'd put Meachem in instead of Henderson this year. |

Re: Should David Patten get re-signed in the offseason?
Hagan, I partially agree with you on your take about Henderson. Definitely he has been a disappointment. He was suppose to be that number 2 guy, and did not even come close to panning out in that roll. If he is willing to take number 3 guy type of money, then he definitely should stay. His roll as a deep threat is not easily replaced.
Yes, right now the Saints do not have a true number 2, but collectively, set in different packages, they seem to be able to overcome that. That is why I really think the Saints should try to keep their WR group together. The Saints really need to spend the "big" money on defense. McKenzie is going to be an unrestricted free agent, David has not lived up to his potential, and the Saints got about as many miles from their LB group as they are going to get. One last note, I too doubt that Henderson will be around next year. I seriously think some team is going to fall in love with his speed, and that he seems to have overcome his butter fingers in the second half of the season, and seriously overpay him. You think a team like Minnesota would welcome him about now? |
