Can we pressure McNabb

with only our front four? This defense of ours seems to be built around the basis of pressuring the qb with only the front four, setting the lb's and playing deep zones. It's the old 'bend but don't break' defense. But, we have shown that we are very weak against the long pass, which it is designed to 'prevent'. We have had veteran cb's bite on either the play action or double moves, letting the wr run right pass them. We have had safeties do the same or just get way out of position to make a play. Five OL (plus a rb or te) makes 6-7 blocking only 4. No way Smith or Grant are going to get any pressure unless the coverage downfield is so good that the qb pulls it down and waits too long.
Fujita is a good dogger, but the other two are not. Harper can blitz if he doesn't give it away too soon and doesn't start too far back.
But then, who is going to shadow Westbrook?

No. That's one of the fundamental problems with the Saints passing defense.

And therein lies the dilemma my friend. Gibbs doesn't have the personnel to do what he wants to do. That's been the problem for the last 2 years.

Figuring I'm going to get burnt like toast anyway, if I were Gibbs I'd bring it from all angles. My reasoning would be that if you can press the QB then the likelihood of him making a long accurate throw is diminished. That a least gives your secondary a chance to make a play on the ball. Of course I'd spy Westbrook.

But giving McNabb a chance to get comfortable, survey the field, and the opportunity to pull the ball down and run is a recipe for disaster.

containment is all I ask for. Requiring Westbrook to block

Well, it looked from the stands that we did blitz/dog and could not get him on him can. Is this DC fault or the GM for not getting him the right players???
