God knows smith needs the help.
Phillips is the best Safety in a so-so draft for FS. Most of the good prospects at FS are CBs. This fact may have inflated his value a bit. But he deffinitly has the specs for FS. SS is different. Got a pretty good looking group there. |

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I would just love to see an impact linebacker on this team. When was the last time the Saints had a very good linebacker?

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
I'm so torn at who I want... there's just so many holes on defense.

Re: Kenny Phillips or BUST
Holes? one large gapping wound is more like it.
I look at the JRs staying and the way they would have effected the board if they had entered and I wonder if it is best to use this pick and try to get an established vet in a trade down. Or just use the pick to get that impact player or two we need on defense with this pick and try to get in the top five of round 2 while doing it. Roberston and Vilma from the jets and swap #2 for our #10. If we think we can replace Stinch with a draft choice then add him to the mix and get thier #2 straight out. Of course Vilma would have to check out ok and a contract deal would need to be worked out. So maybe get the #2 and do a conditional pick deal in 2009, keeping stinch or not, and base it on how everything works out. You just killed two birds with one stone and got young vets in return. The jets dump two #1s that do not fit the system they are running. They get a RT they need. Sounds like a win win to me. Besides we would be sending the player picked to an AFC team to compete with the Pats. No I am not sold on Philips. He might be standing out among the Ss because of how thin the group of S really are. There is more talk about all the good CB that might better at S than the S themselves. Last year he would have been a mid first rounder at best. I lean towards the bottom third myself. Maybe top of the second round |
