Re: Your the Saints GM, what would you do this off-season???
I'm still not so sure about that. Payton at times still exhibits symptoms of "Offenseitis": the mistaken belief that offense wins championships.
So if I were GM I'd build a solid defense, make sure that we had the personnel to run the football, then go ask Coach what else he needs. So then I agree that...

FA:
1) A Captain for the Defense. LB,S whatever. Just a drew type of leader. 2) YOUTH for CB and DT, You can live with the growing pains here. It can not get any worse than the past two years. But at least you have a start for once. Mid level FA are fine. it is a start 3) WR for the #2/#3 position. long term goal of playing #3 because meachem will produce by the third year and be the #2 we drafted him to be. 4) Sign Colston and Smith to long term deals and get it out of the way for next year. Draft: Wheel and deal like 2 years ago moving up and down the draft board in each round aquiring picks and/or players. well more down than up, please. We are not young enough or deep enough to make too many moves up the board. The OL is the only postion we are deep enough to do that with, but there are too many questions yet unanswered about the least two years of draft picks to do anything. If there is a starter in the wings, at Tackle, our best trade bait is Stinch. He is in his last year of his contract. Other than that we do not have much. any other position would hurt the team. But do not be affraid to make a move because of it. Be smart though. So go with the BPA for each and every round. Get as many picks as possible. Please try at least to get yourself into position so the defense has a chance to be that BPA. We can afford to reach once in a while. Just do not go nuts. |

Good Points SHIAH. You too Hagan.
I really think Payton also depends too much on small schools. Yes, you can find "A diamond in the ruff", but jeez, at least in the late rounds pick an SEC guy. |

Now, we will over-look SEC schools for more "Diamonds" in these small schools. ![]() |
