The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
You heard it here first, the TV figures in the UK are very high now and they want an exciting team who score alot of points after the NYG Miami low scoring one, i have inside information that the home team IS the Saints.
It will be the game against Oakland (most likely) or San Diego. I know this information will probably piss you guys off losing a home game but you'll find out in a week anyway. |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
well we dont play well at home so ok, though i really wanted to go to the san diego game

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
If this is true, losing the home game doesn't bother me that much. What bothers me is the fans, more specifically all the damn whistles in the stands. I could never watch NFL Europe because of that crap.
I guess the NFL has a long term plan with this. Maybe they are hoping that the NFL catches on in Europe, and that some freak from Romania who is 6 foot 10, 370 pounds with 4.3 speed is found. |

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
There's a link somewhere on ESPN.com suggesting that we are one of the teams in consideration I believe.
|
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
I also read somewhere that we're in consideration. And here's a link from KFFL. You guys can be too hard on newbies sometimes.
KFFL - New Orleans Saints News and Notes Saints | Team could play in UK in 2008 Sun, 20 Jan 2008 13:23:16 -0800 Chris Mortensen, of ESPN.com, reports the New Orleans Saints are a leading candidate to play in the NFL's 2008 game in the United Kingdom, according to a league source. |

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
It is just 1 more way for the NFL to screw us. Of course we will lose a home game for this nonsense. Screw Europe.

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Actually, we've lost QUITE A FEW home games in the last few years. QUITE A FEW. Did you forget about Katrina?
It seems to me the NFL could pick a team that hasn't already lost so many home games. And it's ironic that they're considering us, because we're the ONLY team in the league that has given up so many home games. Ironic, wouldn't you say? |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
It would be a major mistake to take away any of the Saints 8 home games.
The team has already been forced to play too many home agames out side of the SuperDome... in the past 3 years. As a fan I would be livid |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Congratulations Euro dudes, you got us:
SAINTS TO PLAY CHARGERS IN LONDON When Drew Brees left the Chargers and signed with the Saints, he likely never dreamed that his opportunity to prove the folks in San Diego that they kept the wrong guy would occur on the other side of an ocean. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the New Orleans Saints will "host" the San Diego Chargers on October 26 in London. The game will be played at Wembley Stadium, the same venue where the Dolphins hosted the Giants in October 2007. There was some thought that the game wouldn't be played at Wembley again, because the slick soccer pitch coupled with a cold rain made the thing a sloppy mess last time around. This time, the league wanted to provide England with a potentially high-scoring game, and the Chargers and Saints have two of the league's marquee offenses. |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
I wouldn't mind if it was an away game over there. But a home game?.... C'mon NFL. That's not right.

Saints will reportedly play 'home' game in London
Saints will reportedly play 'home' game in London- NOLA.com
Meanwhile, Saints Coach Sean Payton might lose some assistant coaches to his mentor Bill Parcells and the Miami Dolphins. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Dolphins have hired Saints special teams coordinator John Bonamego to coach their special teams, and they have offered their offensive coordinator position to Saints quarterbacks coach Pete Carmichael. The newspaper cited an unnamed NFL source. The Saints did not confirm either report. Bonamego, 44, has coached special teams in the NFL for nine years in New Orleans, Green Bay and Jacksonville. While with the Jaguars, he worked alongside Miami Coach Tony Sparano, who recently was hired by Parcells, the Dolphins' vice president of football operations. Carmichael, 36, also worked with Sparano in Cleveland and Washington when he began his NFL coaching career in 2000 and 2001. Since then, Carmichael has spent six years working with quarterback Drew Brees -- first in San Diego from 2002 to '05, then in New Orleans. |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
im a season ticket holder, so i hope they reduce the cost by that amount(one game), but fat chance I guess.

ELLO GUVNOR! It's (Un-officially) Official
Report: Chargers, Saints to meet in London on Oct. 26
ESPN.com news services Updated: January 27, 2008, 3:09 PM ET It looks like the San Diego Chargers and the New Orleans Saints will be the next group of NFL teams to take their show overseas. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers will play the Saints in London on Oct. 26. The game will most likely take place at Wembley Stadium, which is where the New York Giants beat the Miami Dolphins last October. Chargers President Dean Spanos would not confirm San Diego's involvement to the newspaper but said, "We want to go. I'm cautiously optimistic." Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to make the announcement official at his Super Bowl media conference on Friday, according to the Union-Tribune. This will be just the league's second regular-season game played outside North America. The meeting between New York and Miami this past October was the first. |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Word, Venturi. That's the least they should do. I know they're trying to capitalize on Katrina. That's what this is about. New Orleans became a sympathy favorite (worldwide) when Katrina was going on. When I was in England, people would hear my accent, then ask me about the US. When I said I was from New Orleans, they were all interest at that point. (I went to England a month after Katrina hit).
So I think I can say I know what this is about - it's the NFL trying to capitalize on it. They'll be playing "Saints This", and "Saints That" on the loudspeakers (since we're the "home" team). It's all about business angle, play on sympathy and interest, use it to hook in more fans across the pond - I understand that. But what I can't tolerate is that we lose (yet another) of our precious home games for them to maximize their profit. You SUCK, NFL. |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
I say no to playing games overseas no reason for it....... Europe is all about soccer and not football. Why should any team especiallly a team like ours give up home games to play across the pond. No way I say.......and cut the crap Goodal we need our teams to play at home. It is our National Sport so why we trying to sell ice cubes to eskimos.

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
I think this SUX too. I was saving to go to the game. To watch Drew kid the chargers butts. Dam I can't go to England.
|
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Screw that! I'm going.
I can only hope the dollar will have strengthed vs. the pound by then. The food their sucks, the weather sux, but the bars are fun and the beer is strong. Any chance to make a stop in Amsterdam is also fine with me. |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
The Saints do seem to play better in away games than home games.
|
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Well, I guess it's going to stay that we, since we don't seem to play many actual home games.
Enjoy it Stockman. Amsterdam.... ah. Can you say... heaven? |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
No travel. I hate this.
|
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
amsterdam...yeah baby...I hope we don't lose any key players due to injury when our "home field" is a big slow mudpile
|
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Positive. Here's why. Season tickets go down by 10%. Game will be on national TV. Europe may fall in love with the Saints and be Euro's team.
|
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Well, judging by our record at home the last 5 season and I won't include 2005 we are 20-21 including the Eagle playoff game. I'm a season ticket holder and this doesn't really break my heart. Maybe make the roadtrip to Atlanta can fill the void.

The Saints are one of the most popular NFL teams in Europe and have been for quite some time. Can't find the link to that article so ya'll just have to believe me on that one. ME on the other hand, I will be coming to New orleans again in October. Love the people, love the city, love the team. |

If you are a Swede, how did you pick the Saints? Why so the Saints enjoy so much European popularity? |
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
I'm all swedish. I spent a year in Louisiana (Deville, Buckeye HS) as an exchange student 99-00. I started playing football and started watching the Saints. I don't know really why the Saints are popular over here. been on TV more than other teams i would guess.

i'm bitter!!......BUT.......just think, in oct 09 when the next nfc team is chosen, they will be talking about how the last 2 nfc teams that played in this game went to the SUPERBOWL!!!

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Again, I don't mind the Saints playing in London. All that I mind is that we're losing (yet another) home game to do it. When others teams here have -never- had to give up a home game. If the NFL would just be a little more fair about it, I wouldn't mind at all.

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Im ignorant to this situation... How does everyone know its a home game?? Is the new schedule out already??
|
Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
It's being posted all over the web, but it's not official yet. I posted a link from KFFL in this or some other thread. Below is another link from SI. Looks like they talking about Oct 26th, after which both us and San Diego will have bye weeks.
