Saints' Carmichael not likely to come marching in -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com
The decision hasn't been finalized, but the belief that Carmichael, who was also pursued last year by then coach Cam Cameron for the same job, will turn the Dolphins down again has prompted team officials to continue the search. |

Re: Saints' Carmichael not likely to come marching in
i find it really odd that he would turn down an OC job to stay on as a QB coach

Re: Saints' Carmichael not likely to come marching in
I don't know exactly what the situation is with Carmichael, but I think the Saints can block him from going to another team. I am not exactly sure how it works, but I think the only way an assistant can not be blocked if it's for the head coach job, or if the contract expires. At one time a simple promotion was all that was needed. That loop hole was recently closed up. One of the things NFL teams were doing was raiding guys from other staffs, and simply adding assistant head coach to the title, or anything like that. These days if an assistant wants to work for another team as an assistant, it's basically the call of the team who owns contract rights on that coach.
