Riders' Kerry Joseph set for workout with NFL team
Joseph is to work out for the New Orleans Saints on Feb. 13. If that audition does not result in an NFL contract offer that entices Joseph, the 34-year-old quarterback hopes his existing CFL pact with the Roughriders will be sweetened. "I'm not upset with the Riders,'' Joseph said Wednesday from his offseason home in Orlando, Fla. "I'm not seeking NFL opportunities because I'm mad at the Roughriders and because of my contract. It's just an opportunity. |

I really don't know much about him, but if he was the "Outstanding CFL Player" I say sign him and let him compete for a roster spot. Could be a very nice backup QB, and giving him the type of money he is seeking is no issue by NFL standards.

How about a CB. Do you think there a CB in the CFL we could use. Or at the very least have tryout.

I would imagine the CFL must have some good corners. It is a passing league with a big field.

Re: Riders' Kerry Joseph set for workout with NFL team
FYI - Kerry Joseph ( 6'2" 210 # ) is originally from New Iberia and played CFB at McNeese. He was one helluva QB in college as I saw him play many times. **Named to the All-Louisiana college team in 1995 and selected the state's offensive football player of the year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. He played Safety for the Seahawks from 1998-2001.
PRO: Selected first overall by Saskatchewan in the Ottawa Player Dispersal Draft in April, 2006...originally signed by the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 1996, where he spent most of the season on the practice roster...Played QB for the World League's London Monarchs in 1997...Signed by Washington in 1997 and moved to tailback during training camp...Played for the Rhein Fire in the spring of 1998 but as a safety...Signed by Seattle in the spring of 1998 and played safety for the Seahawks for the next four seasons...Also returned punts for them briefly...Released by Seattle in April 2002 and signed by Ottawa in April of 2003. 2002: Did not play professionally (competed in flag football league in home state of Louisiana) ... Released from the Seahawks Seattle (NFL) in April. 2001: Played with the Seahawks... Played eight games ... totaled six solo tackles at safety... Was credited of one quarterback sack for loss of six yards ... 2000: Started 10 of the 16 games with the Seahawks... Tallied 58 tackles, 45 in solo... On special teams, tackled once in solo and once assisted by teammate ... 1999: Started four of 16 games with Seahawks.... Totalled 28 tackles, 21 in solo... Defensively, intercepted three times for return gains of 82 yards... On special teams, tackled once in solo ... 1998: Started the year with NFL Europe Rhein Fires... Started 11 games at safety... Intercepted three passes from opponent quarterbacks... Ranked second on team with 41 tackles... Forced on fumble... Knocked down seven passes... Sacked once... Following his World Bowl championship win, the Seattle Seahawks re-signed him... In Seattle, tallied 21 tackles including 20 in solo... Played in 16 games on defensive and on special teams... Returned 15 kicks for returns of 182 yards ... 1997: Started the year with the NFL Europe's London Monarchs... Tried out as quarterback, his natural position... In the fall, Joseph tried out as slotback with the NFL's Washington Redskins... Was released in training camp ... 1996: Attended training camp of the Cincinnati Bengals ... Spent the entire season on the practice roster... HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE: Named MVP of McNeese State in his senior year of 1995 ... Also named to the All-Southland Conference team and named the conference player of the year ... Named to the All-Louisiana college team in 1995 and selected the state's offensive football player of the year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association ... Led the team to a 42-11 record during four seasons as the McNeese State starting quarterback ... Led the team to the NCAA Division two Southland Conference titles ... In summary: Positives - great athlete , versatile player with KO and PR experience, not afraid to hit someone and be physical. Negatives - Joseph will be 35 yrs old in October 2008 , and definitely long in the tooth. His best years (speed and quickness) may be behind him. It would be a great "feel good" story if Kerry Joseph made the 53 man roster , BUT I feel it's a serious long shot as this team needs to get younger, not older. cajun blake <*)))>{ |

As a canadian who has watched Joseph for years, we do not want him. He is a hell of an athlete and plays QB like a linebacker sometimes, but he was only the MVP because all three of the best teams QB's were hurt. Just isn't accurate enough and is not nearly on the level of the cfl QB's who have worked in the NFL... Flutie, Garcia, Dickenson and even Casey Printers.
