Re: MERGED: Free-Agent Linebackers to Visit Saints Monday
Well, the Saints may not get an opportunity to talk to Zach. PFT is reporting that Zach is making his first stop in New England. Gee, what a surprise...
THOMAS TO VISIT PATS ON MONDAY Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reports that free-agent linebacker Zach Thomas will meet with the Patriots on Monday. Thomas, released by the Dolphins on Thursday, already has been linked to the Saints, Cowboys, Jets, and Bills. New England apparently will be his first visit. The big question is whether any team will be able to give Thomas medical clearance to play. Concussions limited him to five games in 2007. |

Re: MERGED: Free-Agent Linebackers
I don't think I'd take a chance on either linebacker. They're both too old. Morgan is injury prone. Thomas, while he may have leadership abilities, is damaged goods from his car accident. Coach Payton is the one who said they want to get younger and more athletic. The best kind of leadership is by example. The Saints could rely on McKenzie, Smith, Grant, and Fujita for leadership. The Saints need a young tackling machine in the middle. Someone who can dish out punishment as well as take it. Morgan and Thomas will not be able to take the punishment. Briggs would be ok. But the young man from USC, I can't remember his name off hand, or Dan Connor would be a better choice. A starting DT would be just as good. In the games I got to see on television, the Saints were awful agains the run. And there was no pass rush whatsoever. That's why Jason David got burned so many times. It wasn't because of his inability to play. It was because he had to cover the WR for such long periods of time. Any receiver could get open with that amount of time.
