Meacham
what is the latest on this kid?
is he the latest WR bust from the University of Tennessee? i hope he steps up this year and gets over his injury, but i still wish we would have drafted defense with our first pick last year. we could have had a nice young lb (like poluzny or however you spell his last name) or depth at dt or cb. i hope do hope he proves me wrong. |
Re: Meacham
The latest is he will be a stud in 08'
|
Re: Meacham
Cant call him a bust he hasnt had a chance to play yet. I hope he can be a good #2 receiver. I see him doing big things for the 08 season.

Re: Meacham
Jim Miler ( NFL RADIO 124 ) was talk'in about Meachem yesterday. The Saints were well aware of the injury Meachem. He just fell way behind.
My hope is come back this year and he comes back BIG !!!!!!!! MEACHEM Robert WR |
Re: Meacham
I would love to be optimistic, but it has no basis.
I mean, the guy didn't dress once, even when he was healthy. Hopefully he crack the lineup this year and contribute as a 3. Everybody remember how great we felt about our off-season last year? We "upgraded" at TE, K, S, LB, WR, and of course CB, but not one addition made an impact. Sean and Co. need a big rebound. |

Re: Meacham
The thing that kind of scares me about Meacham is I know he wasn't hurt the entire season, and still didn't get to play a single down. It sounds like he didn't have a grasp of the play book. Not a good sign for a top pick. At least he should have gotten a few plays at the end of the season if nothing else.
|
Re: Meacham
ok he fell behind. but i think injury was key. The saints did not want to risk him. So lets see what next year brings. He has a year of rehab and a year of coaching. He should hit the ground running when two a days start. Bust is not a word I am going to use with him. Yet

Re: Meacham
Don't bash on Meachem too much. We were in the playoff hunt up until the last game, so it wasn't like they were snubbing him for no good reason. Letting him redshirt this year and get a feel for the offense will pay dividends down the line. I expect he'll tear it up in camp.
For that matter, the majority of this draft class will go a long way to building a solid foundation for the future of the team. Was it lightning in a bottle the way the '06 draft turned out? No, but it'd be hard to even get close to that. Was it a solid group of talent that built up our o-line for the next several seasons, got us the perfect compliment to our #1 receiver, and a corner with a lot of potential? Let's talk about this draft in after a few more seasons. |
Re: Meacham
I said this on draft day last year and I will say it now...
This was the worst possible pick for this team. BUST We could have taken any number of guys who contributed right away. If this guy was worth anything he would have helped our play off run. Joe staley, Ben Grubbs, Greg Olsen, Anthony Gonzalez Coulda, woulda and shoulda |
Re: Meacham
he is healthy and spent the year getting stronger and will be ready. He knows the play book and the coaches have been working with him. Odds are in his favor to blow us all away next year.
|
Re: Meacham
don't be so quick to throw out our 2007 draft. young will be our starting CB next year, and he'll be solid as ****. meachem should be able to contribute, hopefully. allman is going to compete for a starting spot. pittman didn't pay off for us but atleast he competed for and lost the roster spot to pierre thomas, eh? ;). if he were any good we wouldn't have pierre thomas right now and we'd probably regret it down the line. hahaha.

Re: Meacham
has he ever had any "character issues"?
last year may have humbled him a bit after being a 1st round pick could be a good thing for him and the team lets all hope for the best.........GO SAINTS...WHO DAT |

Re: Meacham
Boba,
This isn't Major League baseball... Remember Jerry Glanville? This is the NFL, which stands for not for long when you make these kind of draft picks. There is no minor league system for these guys to get reps. Bottom Line: These guys did not help us last year. So in essence they are still un-proven. Just like the guys we will draft this year. First Round talent???? Meachem???? What has he ever done to prove he has first round talent? Run a fast 40? I undertand if you feel some fans have "blinders" on... But fans with blinders can still see better than those who are BLIND |
Re: Meacham
I will open a can of worms with this statement...so here goes.
I would be more apt to say Reggie is a bust before I would call Mecham a bust, at this particular moment. Reggie has not been overly impressive the past two years, thus, my opinion about Reggie. Yes, I want to see him become this great back that everyone says he's going to be, but he just hasn't shown it.....YET. Mechum hasn't even HAD THE CHANCE to show if he is or ain't going to be a star wideout.....YET. Give the guy a chance. We will know this year if he is gold or bust. I have caught alot of flak about "Downing, Bashing, or just Being Mean" towards Reggie. Reggies had two years already to show us he is worth more to the Saints than just putting us into Pepsi, ADIDAS, VISA, and Free-Flo-Do commercials. Why won't some of you give him the same chance you are giving Reggie????? Let the "Sapper Bashing" begin!!!!! |

Re: Meacham
Yep do not kill the 2007 draft. If they were drafted in 2006 they would have had more playing time. The OL needs some tweaking not complete rebuilding. So why are you surprised they had a hard time getting on the field. The OL is good and will get better. Mech has to see the field before I pass judgment. I like the way they handled it. Get the knee worked on, then work it into shape and work on the play book at the same time. Makes sense to me.

How many times does it need to be brought up, the Saints drafted last year with this offseason in mind...3 WR's are free agents, so we drafted one in the first round...2 O-lineman are free agents, so we drafted 2 more. Our Cb's are getting up in age, we drafted 2 more to develop. Some teams are deeper than others, some teams need starters, some teams need depth, some teams are looking to fill future holes...thats what the saints did. They are in a better situation now to focus squarely on the defense this offseason because they filled all of our free agent holes last season. Does that make any sense at all? It does to me. |
