League To Reimburse New Orleans For Lost Home Game
LEAGUE TO REIMBURSE NEW ORLEANS FOR LOST HOME GAME
From the moment that the NFL decided to yank from New Orleans, only three years after Hurricane Katrina, one of the Saints' eight home games, we've been concerned about the move. At a time when the city is struggling to rebuild, it needs the financial boost that comes from those rare Sundays with a full Superdome and everything else that goes along with it. To defray these losses, the league will reimburse New Orleans for lost ticket revenue, parking, and concessions resulting from the home game that will be exported to London. But is that enough? The financial impact goes beyond ticket sales, parking, and concessions. Hotels and restaurants will be pinched as well, and overall tax revenues will be depleted as well. Then there's the emotional impact. New Orleans needs the Saints, now more than ever. While we fully support the league's decision to expand its popularity beyond our borders, there are 30 other franchises that have yet to take one for the team by giving up a home game. Couldn't the Saints have been given an exemption for a few more years? After all, the Saints loss all of their home games in 2005; why should they lose another one now? Our suggestion? Until the regular season is expanded to 17 games, allowing every team to play eight at home, eight on the road, and one at a neutral site, the team that wins the Super Bowl should be the team that plays a home game overseas the following season. It's a small price to pay for toting the Lombardi, and it promotes parity by making it harder for the team at the top of the mountain to make it all the way back there the following year. |

NOLA needs home games.
We are a tourist town! Opponents fans who can afford one away game look at the schedule see New Orleans! It is a no brain-er. Our hotels are filled - restaurants, bars. Sheeze! I miss the old Comish! |

Re: PFT: League to Reimburse Saints
I guess the NFL realized they made a bad choice for the city of New Orleans, and it's there way of saying "sorry that we screwed you". The only fair way to go about this is to reduce the preseason to 3 games, and add a 17th, with each team on a neutral site every season. The only problem with that is something else would have to give. The season may get pushed up a week, which the NFL doesn't like because Labor Day weekend does not draw a great TV audience, maybe skip the by-week, let the regular season go an extra week on the end, or maybe eliminating the by-week between the championship games and Super Bowl. Then what would be the method use to determine that extra game each season? Not really an easy answer to any of it.

Re: PFT: League to Reimburse Saints
As you all know that game is against my Bolts. I was never to happy then instead of letting the football fans watch them play we send them overseas to a bunch of futbol fans can wonder what is going on. And yes those deals between the city and the teams.
As much as id like to see another regular season game Football is a sport that takes a toll on your body and i want to see players across the board stay healthy. If you want europe so bad lets have ourselves and expansion and make 8 teams (an NFC division and an AFC division) and throw that into the rotation. Preseason games can go over seas and maybe the pro bowl but lets not go sending a regular season game over seas especially when a team loses a home game. Score Prediction: Long flight 57 New Orleans (city): 0 |
Chargers Fan: I come in peace, I am not here to flame or troll just to learn about your team.
