Bears release WR Muhammed

I think I would have to pass on him. I love what he did in some past years, but I have a gut feeling he may not have much left. Why would Chicago even consider releasing him if he still has it?

...same reason why their QB depth consists of Grossman, Griese, Orton?
... same reason why they released Thomas Jones?

IMHO, the Bears are more concerned with signing their defensive FA's.

Talent falls through the cracks every day in the NFL.

Guys, Muhammed is washed up...has been for a while now. He would not be able to come in here and do anything more that what Lance Moore did last year. The guy is done. I would not be surprised to see him have season in 2008 like Horn did in 2007....he is a complete afterthought.

Agreed!

We need Defense. Any attempt to go after anyone in Free Agency on the offense except for G or TE seems ludicrous at this time.

..dude, that's a really strong statement. Mohamed was with the Bears for the past 3 years, in a horrible pass offense. You can't say he's washed up, unless you are equating a receiver being washed up to being on an offense that just plain don't throw the ball because none of the QB's on the roster can.

Ditto. You know from the lack of usage of receivers in that horrid offense, Mushin might have added a couple of years left in the league.

He may or may not be washed up... no one knows that. It wouldn't hurt to bring him in for a visit. There isn't much depth there at WR with all the free agents we have. Though he wouldn't be my first or maybe even 10th choice, but what's there to lose with a harmless visit.

So ALL of it is the qb's fault? You know, Bernard Berrian has been on the same team with him for the last 3 years and he is a free agent too and people seem to have interest in him. Because he still has something left. Moose does not. Roddy White was able to have a career year with Harrington, Leftwich and Redman. Berrian has been solid the last two years with the Bears. Moose wasnt even a contributer when they went to the Super Bowl. The guy is done.

Bob, have you seen the Bears play? And more importantly, have you seen Grossman, Griese, and/or Orton play QB?

As for Berrian, what do you mean by "he still has something left"? ??He's only 27!!. And I can see teams being more interested in him than Moose because he is young, and because no one really knows what he can do with an actual NFL QB since he's really never played with one, but it's not like he's been lighting it up. Last season was the best season of his career by far,and even though he was the primary receiver, and only had 71 catches, and didn't break 1000 yds. The prior 3 years, he was a non-factor, and actually was out-played by Muhammad in 2006 and 2005.

Again, I'm not saying that Muhammad is great, but you can't say he's washed up and that he's been washed up for a while based on him playing the last 3 years for the Bears.

And I can see teams being more interested in him than Moose because he is young, and because no one really knows what he can do with an actual NFL QB since he's really never played with one, but it's not like he's been lighting it up. Last season was the best season of his career by far,and even though he was the primary receiver, and only had 71 catches, and didn't break 1000 yds. The prior 3 years, he was a non-factor, and actually was out-played by Muhammad in 2006 and 2005. Again, I'm not saying that Muhammad is great, but you can't say he's washed up and that he's been washed up for a while based on him playing the last 3 years for the Bears.
