Could Briggs/Ayanbadejo go free?
Bears' Angelo can't allow Berrian to bolt -- ChicagoSports.com
"Angelo needs to follow up on the proposals to would-be free agents Bernard Berrian, Lance Briggs and Brendan Ayanbadejo by telling Berrian he has until 3 p.m. Thursday to accept the deal.... If Berrian turns it down, that leaves Angelo little choice but to place the franchise tag on the wide receiver before the deadline. He can't just let Berrian go without the Bears starting from scratch offensively—an unnecessarily rash move." Losing Briggs might be harder to accept for the Bears, especially in light of Brian Urlacher's recent neck surgery, but they might want to brace themselves. A source said Briggs' initial reaction to the Bears' new opening offer, the total of which is unknown, was that it still wasn't high enough. |

Re: Could Briggs/Ayanbadejo go free
aren't we like $25 Million under the cap right now????
Someone explain to me, does that number go down depending on what our draftees will make? Is 25 million alot and can we go buy Lance Briggs and a couple of others in FA and still do our draftees right and Colston most importantly? Someone please explain. |

the way the market is looking I say go full bore after Briggs. He is the last of the top talents left besides Samuel. Then sign or players and get some contracts out of the way.
Maybe add a FS Ken Hamlin, UFA, Dallas Cowboys or Gibril Wilson UFA New York Giants draft the rest. |

Well they are the best FA out there outside of briggs and some offensive guys. I thought everyone hated bullocks this year. So upgrade.
Dump cash on briggs and call it a day. Sign our guys and get to the draft. trade back in 1 and get the extra 2nd or 3rd. Select a CB or LB then look at the CB that can be moved to FS. A lot of ball hawks in the draft that can play it. But first and for most get a LB. veteran to be the captain of the defense. If not I hope to see the fans ready to wait for them to develop. Unless you want to be the team that signs the most expensive FA of the year Samuel. The draft is just to deep to do that IMO |

What about the DT we need? How do we fill that slot? SFIAH |

Re: Could Briggs/Ayanbadejo go free
DT is a definite need in the draft with all the impact guys off the market. We've got to select one with one of our first 3 picks.
I agree Hagan we need to go all out to try to get Briggs here. The money that could have been spent to address a stud CB or DT is freed up with all the top dogs being franchised. Briggs can't and I wouldn't mind having to "settle" with Briggs... though I still think he's overrated to a certain extent. KK is going to be 32 years old this upcoming season... so he isn't exactly what we're looking for as an impact safety. Good player for depth purposes and spot starting. Hamlin and Wilson are much better options though Dallas will not like Hamlin get away. Wilson probably could be had if the price was right. |
