This is what we need: Big/strong enough to take on double teams and stop the run and fast/quick enough to put pressure on the quaterback in obvious (3rd and long) situations to squeeze/push the pocket.

Since Thomas and Yound is the best of this bunch and starters, we see what they do. What about these back-ups? Will they step up or do we really have to go FA/high draft pick after one?

Re: Defensive Tackle

The rest of the DTs are trash. A bunch of FAs picked up before the season started because they were out of jobs. We need a stud to complement Hollis. Just my two cents.

ESPN - As free agency nears, McFarland, Morris, Givens among cuts - NFL

I say give Booger a chance, couldn't hurt if the price is right.

Re: Defensive Tackle

Dorsey is the new Bugger! What a sight in the black and gold! What would it take to trade up to get him?

Re: Defensive Tackle

Saun Rogers is my favorite over Mcfarland. That dude is a heck of a DT.

Re: Defensive Tackle

with the news about dorsey's tibia or whatever, he might fall a few spots. If he falls to say 7, do we trade up? I say absolutely

Re: Defensive Tackle

Supposely there are many quality DT's available via trade these days. I'm not in favor of trading up to select a DT... if anything I'd like to trade down to acquire more picks. An extra pick or two would make us an enticing trading partner to beef up our DL.

Re: Defensive Tackle

Truth be told (and you guys are going to hang me for this), I really don't think he'll go in the top 5 and I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see Dorsey fall all the way to us at 10. Ellis has had better workouts and is the hotter name right now, and plenty of teams will shy away from Dorsey because of his knee problems. Here's a quick idea of how that might happen:

Miami -- Chris Long
St. Louis -- Vernon Gholston (you might think I'm crazy but I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen at all)
Atlanta -- Matt Ryan
Oakland -- Darren McFadden
Kansas City -- Jake Long
NY Jets, New England, Baltimore -- won't take him because he's not a good fit for a 3-4 which means he slides all the way to number 9 and...
Cincinnati -- here's where it gets interesting. Plenty of mocks have them taking Ellis here. But there's rumors that they want to switch to a 3-4 as well. So, if Ellis is still here they could go with him, or maybe they go for another guy who fits that scheme better.

Which means Dorsey falls right in our laps at 10, no muss, no fuss, and someone from the Saints war room better be running up to the podium as soon as the timer says 14:59. It's unlikely, and all of it hinges on what St. Louis and Atlanta do, and there's always the chance someone tries to trade up and disrupt my whole outline, but it's not at all out of the realm of possibility.

Re: Defensive Tackle

1. Miami Dolphins - Jake Long
2. St. Louis Rams - Chris Long
3. Atlanta Falcons - Glen Dorsey
4. Oakland Raiders - Sedrick Ellis
5. Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Clady
6. New York Jets - Darren McFadden
7. New England Patriots - Vernon Gholston
8. Baltimore Ravens - Matt Ryan
9. Cincinatti Bengals - Keith Rivers
10. New Orleans Saints - Leodis McKelvin

That's my top 10... both DT's going in the top 5.
