Stecker agrees to new deal with the Saint

Running back Aaron Stecker's solid season will keep him in New Orleans as he agreed to a deal to stay with the Saints, Stecker's agent Ron Slavin said Saturday afternoon.

Tampa Bay, Stecker's former team, was also interested in the veteran running back. Slavin said the deal will be signed likely by Monday.

That moves tells me that we are not looking at Mike "Burner" Turner. Would like to have seen us look really hard at him as a replacement for Duece. Guessing the coaching staff is confident in Strec,Bush and PT running for 50 yrds a game again this year...

The Saints agreed to re-sign tailback Aaron Stecker to a 1-year, $1.4 million contract, according to his agent Ronald Slavin. Slavin said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also offered Stecker a deal, but the offers were close, so Stecker preferred to stay put.

1.4 million is not bad. PT and Stecker in a rotation sounds ok to me for one more year.

Re: Stecker agrees to new deal with the Saint

Right now, we have.....Reggie Bush, Deuce McCallister, Pierre Thomas, Aaron Stecker, J. Branch and the kid we picked up that went to college at Wake Forest. Can't remember his name now.
Right no we have Bush, Thomas and Stecker. We've seen that Bush is ineffective between the tackles (which I believe is the OLs fault) we don't know if Deuce will be back and if he's gonna be anywhere close to the back he used to be. Branch is still unproven. By keeping Stecker we have a good 3rd RB. i think we gonna se Bush starting and Thomas being the 2nd guy or Thomas being used in a rotation with Bush like we did McAllister 2 years ago.

i totally agree with the statement about the Oline and Reggie.. they hardly created holes in the middle to run between the tackles.. im glad jeff faine is gone..

Re: Stecker agrees to new deal with the Saint

I like this signing - it gives us room to maneuver (no, I didn't say manure). What happens if we let him go to Tampa, but can't sign a better back in FA? Then we're really on the hook, burning draft picks on unknowns. But with him signed, we're not in that ugly situation.

So what do we do now? Try to uprade him? Sure. But we've got insurance if we can't. We're not in a bind if it doesn't pan out. And if we succeed, he's trade bait, we know other teams are interested.

I like it. It's sensible, IMO.

can anyone help me id this tune? it goes thwap thwap boom tch boom tch boom tch.

Re: Stecker agrees to new deal with the Saint

Great signing, I love Stecker and the coach has a plan to keep the good guys and let the not so good one's go. I know Henderson might not look good but consider he knows the offiense and he really can't drop many more balls then he already has he should be alot better this year and he's fast as hell. Young was doing good last year until he got hurt.

I'm surprised we're letting EJ and Miller both go. I liked Miller last year. I still think we sign. Laboy or Mccary DE's, Gay and/or Dyson at CB, Briggs and Trent Green.

Golf and sex are about the only things you can enjoy without being good at them.
