Troupe to visit Saints

Troupe to visit Saints; Titans still waiting on Nashville City Paper

Free agent tight end Ben Troupe continues to make the rounds, adding the New Orleans Saints to his list of potential suitors, while the Tennessee Titans continue to take the patient path in free agency.

This guy could flourish in the Saints offense if he signs. I hope he doesn't have a bad case of the "dropsies".

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

He could be very good here with a real quarterback throwing him the ball.

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

Keep bringing in the Gators!!!
Troupe had Great hands at the collegiate level, would give Brees a "gates" kinda tight end (not saying he's as good as gates, but with colston and bush taking up most of the coverage, he's a TE that can exploit the weaknesses in the D).

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

according to PFT Alge Crumpler has signed with the Titans. This move improves the likelyhood that we could get him. Drew is known for falling in love with athletic TE's. See Antonio Gates

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

here is a little info on ben

Comment: Troupe is a four-year veteran out of Florida that was drafted by the Titans in the second round of the 2004 draft. He has good size for the position and is a good athlete. He is a smooth, easy mover that can get into and out of his breaks with body control and agility. He has enough of a burst to separate from defenders as he comes out of his cuts but lacks the top downfield speed to sustain his separation. He has a tendency to be a little late off the ball which gives the linebackers the advantage when they want to try and press him at the line. He is not explosive across the line of scrimmage and is not a real strong blocker in spite of his size. At times it looks like he is indecisive both as a blocker as well as when running routes against zone coverage. He has been an underachiever and has struggled to make it through a whole season without some kind of nagging injury. He could use more intensity in his play, especially as a blocker.

He's about the exact same thing as Eric Johnson.. including same salary wise.. I dunno.. I guess..

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

a real qb would help him develop. He could turn into a real gem with the talent around him on this team.

Anybody hear anything more on this guy?

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

I think the Saints have a big play TE on the roster already in Billy Miller and he is cheaper. Miller could see a 600+ yard 70 catch season, if he was the full time starter IMO.

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

I also think Billy Miller is a gem but I think adding Troupe is a nice addition. Seems like Eric Johnson is a little injury prone and lacks toughness. Seems like Eric Johnson is suceptible to many unnecessary big hits.

Has Billy Miller been resigned?

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

The whole knock on Johnson before we got him was that he is injury prone. He's lived up to the billing, and miller has done fine when he's been in there. I just don't understand why he didn't get even more playing time. But then, I'm still trying to figure out how Simoneau gets any playing time and why we even resigned him. He belongs in the show Lost.

Re: Troupe to visit Saints

If he comes, throw him a bone. Troupe is more talented than any tight end on our roster. He didn't have the oppurtunity to shine, because he had Aaron Brooks....I mean Vince Young throwing him the ball. He could relish in New Orleans with a good QB that knows how to use his tight end.

Troupe signed with tampa bay per NFL network
