i agree we have picked up LB, DT, and CB but have done little to address safety position... I'm really hoping for the best with Randall and Usama but without help over the top I'm still a bit worried about the BIG play syndrome...

This year I don't want to cringe when the opposing third stringer throws a deep pass. Pleeeese Payton fix this!!!

I hate to write this but IMO Saints need a running back Duece is done.The ability of the offense to run the ball last season was pathetic and PT isn't the answer.Duece is coming off of major knee surgery (his 2nd) will he return as the back he once was, don't think so.

Mendenhall seems to be a bad word on this forum...unless the saints doctors know something about deuce that we don't...the pick would make sense....however....the argument is that we have too many rbs already and adding another rookie rb doesn't make sense...I think it would be fun and interesting to draft mendenhall...but I don't think I would want the backlash from the fans that Payton would have to answer to considering our glaring needs at CB/LB/DT...I feel that kid mendenhall would have so much pressure on him to perform...he could be like another rickey williams

Maybe I'm exaggerating here but we are at a pivotal cross-roads and if we just get our defensive unit put together with the right personnel...we can hurt alot of teams in 08...the pressure is on everyone on both sides of the ball this year...everyone knows we are good and have big time players who can change the game at any time...we are just not playing up to our potential as a team...def has to negate/minimize the 1-3 big plays that occur every game...that's 7 to 21 points off bombs that the offense has to make up for...it's ridiculous

Because I dont think he is as good as DRC or Mckelvin. I'm not saying he's not going to be good just not as good IMO.

Mendenhall does not bother me at all. The fact Duce would be cut to make room for him does. PT takes over steckers roll?

I wanna take you guys back to our 2007 1st round pick...just before the saints made their selection...there was a poll posted on espn.com...the question was "which is the saint's largest area of need?" the results were

DT - 34%
CB - 33%
LB - 33%

Looks familiar in 08 doesn't it...what i'm trying to get across was that there was no consensus on that draft day just like we don't have now...here are the facts...last year we signed Jason David and Brian Simmons who were both supposed to help solidify our needs at CB and LB...this year we signed def free agents vilma/morgan/mccray/gay...well we all know the direction the saints/payton went by taking meachem in 07...the glaring need in 07 was a defensive 1st rounder who could impact our def...however payton goes wide right and selects an offensive wr when I thought the position was already set...bottom line I feel payton wants to draft a rb with the 10th pick...considering the uncertainty of deuce's health and the question of whether he can regain his form of 2006...i believe now more than ever that mendenhall is the pick even if rivers is sitting there and a top tier cornerback...i don't necessarily agree with it...it's just payton's way i think...what do you guys think about this...am i way off?
