With the 10th pick the Saints select...

It looks as though the fans in this forum want Rivers with the 10th pick. However, if Rivers isn't available at #10 (i.e. going to Cincy at #9), who do you think the Saints should pick?

K. Phillips - FS
DRC - CB
Jenkins - CB
McKelvin - CB
Talib - CB
M. Kelly - WR
Jackson - WR
Mendenhall - RB
Stewart - RB
Other
Trade the pick for more selections to include lower 1st and sequential rounds
_________

Saints fans...make your selection...your on the clock!

I have absolutely no idea what that means. Explanation?

For me, it would go in this order (according to availability):

Dorsey
Ellis
Rivers
Trade down
McKelvin
Jenkins
DRC

you may be right in the mock draft at foxsports.com they said that's who the Saints would be looking at

FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - First-round mock draft: Dorsey's stock falling

but personally I'd like to see us pick up him and Glenn Dorsey (formerly of LSU) man that would be a grate addition to the D but I know it's just wishful thinking

Re: With the 10th pick the Saints select...

DRC. he is a freak of nature. I use to think 10 was a little high for him.. but they thought 15 overall was too high for his cousin.. and well he lead the NFL in INTS last season.. so yeah I love this kid he has no injury problems either, which his cousin did..

beauchristopher 03-03-2008 04:19 PM

Re: With the 10th pick the Saints select...

I don't want to offend anyone.. I love LSU and I love Glenn Dorsey.. but I don't have a good feeling about him in the NFL.. I hope I'm wrong.. I think Ellis is a safer DT pick.. but that's my opinion.. Please don't hate me..

foreverfan 03-03-2008 04:21 PM

Re: With the 10th pick the Saints select...

DRC is way to skinny and will have trouble tackling and staying healthy in the NFL. He will need 2 years to bulk up. Put me down for Ellis, Rivers or another CB that's more ready to start.

..guess it all depends on how the rest of FA pans out. Ask us #10 around April 20th. :)

Re: With the 10th pick the Saints select...

DRC was sticking WR at the senior bowl and lets not forget Deon couldn't tackle either.

I agree with this for the most part except I would rank trade down at number three right after the DTs because this draft is so deep at our need positions (LB and CB: It really gets me excited to see the talent that will be there in the later rounds. If we draft well we could significantly upgrade our defense). But if either Dorsey or Ellis happened to fall miraculously to us at 10 I would jump all over that because DT is so thin in this draft and putting either one of them next to Hollis would be impressive and help keep blockers off of Vilma. After Dorsey and Ellis there is pretty much nothing at DT.

But I highly doubt that anyone is going to want to trade up so it looks like we are going to be stuck with our pick. I'm praying for either of the two DTs, would be more than happy with Kieth Rivers, and actually wouldn't be too upset if we drafted S Kenny Phillips out of Miami, due to the fact that safety is another shallow position in this draft. I don't really know much about the CBs individually so I guess take whichever onw who is best at man coverage, because we all know that the Saints will be playing man, just ask Jason David.

So here's my rankings:

1) Dorsey
2) Ellis
3) Trade Down
4) Rivers
5) Phillips
6) Pick a CB

I love Dorsey. LSU is my team unless they are playing the Ags, but I don't think he is a sure thing. I would not trade up to get him. If he falls to 10 I'll be jumping up and down excited, but keep the picks and don't trade up (especially for antonio pittman)

Not seeing much talk on Kenny Phillips...does anyone think he could become a Troy Polamalu type of playmaker on defense for the Saints...thoughts??

All I hear is Kenny Phillips stock is dropping fast.. I'm not sure why.. I like him as a SS to go along with Harper.

Dallas has two picks at 22 and 28. Know if they might be hot and heavy for anyone at 10?

rumor is they want mcfadden badly

If Mcfadden falls to 10...i would trade picks with dallas and take #22 and #28 without a doubt...fall baby fall!

Re: With the 10th pick the Saints select...

I meant to say kenny phillips at FS* in an earlier post.

I think if McFadden fell past pick 6 then Dallas would tade up with NE before us.. I hate to see it but that's more likely. I don't think NE is really fixed on any particular player.. and they could shock everyone and take McFadden if he fell for all we know..

I could see Gholston going number one overall to Miami too.. I THINK there's gonna be some serious draft day shockers and excitement. I can't wait.. It's still what seems like an eternity away though before any of that happens!

Re: With the 10th pick the Saints select...

Talbid and move him to FS over phillips.
round 2 for your CB.
Tracy Porter, Indiana, 5107, 186, 4.33
Justin King, Penn St., 5107, 192, 4.31

sleeper in day 2
Darnell Terrell, Missouri, 6016, 205 4.45 (CB/S/WR tweener)
Tyvon Branch, Connecticut, 5113, 204, 4.31

Re: With the 10th pick the Saints select...

The Saints will take either a DT or CB with #10 (if they stay at ten)
rotation, rotation, rotation will be the name of our new defensive scheme of the future.
Ellis won't be around, Dorsey is too risky and Balmer is, well, not a top 10.

But I think we take McKelvin or Jenkins (my pick) ;) with our first selection.

Second round we address DT with Dre Moore or Pat Sims ;) (my pick)

Third round we pick my favorite sleeper LB in Johnathan Goff from Vandy.. ;) (I've called him the best value LB in the draft).

Later rounds look for guards, TE's and receivers. Possibly Eric Ainge in round 5.

Write this down and put it on your fridge next to your kid's finger paintings because I'm feeling good about this one. :-D

i could handle that but the 1st rounders would cause me to eat antacid tablets for the next two years,

This hasn't been talked about much but I still would not put it past Payton to draft Mendenhall at #10...I'm sure his argument would be "we addressed key def needs through free agency"...he better hope mendenhall is all that and then some....if not he's getting run out of N.O.

Four reasons we don't draft Mendenhall:
1. Reggie
2. Deuce (his rehab is ahead of schedule)
3. Pierre Thomas
4. Stecker

I know you're a big Talib fan and I wouldn't mind seeing him either - just a hunch we grab one of these "standouts".

It is just a small school CB at 10 will take time, even big school CB will take time. That alot of money at 10 for that time. But we are gambling alot this year our LB signings are anything but safe bets. So I am guessing the trend will continue. Roll away. come on sevens.

You said it!! We might have to nickname Payton "Coach Snake Eyes" Come on baby daddy needs a new pair of shoes!!!

Whoever falls to us at #10, the Saints have addressed every area of need on defense this offseason and might actually be able to take BPA. CB seems to be the most glaring need other than DT and that's why I see a DB coming to N.O. at 10.

wow - I just saw that Mayock has DRC coming to us at 10 (updated March 10th) I love the offseason. :-D

(Assuming Ellis and Dorsey are off the board) If the Saints take Rivers, Jenkins, McKelvin, or DRC I'll be happy.
