Another Louisiana Native...

This is kind of a reach though ,but how good would it be to bring Warrick Dunn back home to Louisiana. I know we have a scat back in Reggie, but how awesome it would be to have him replace Reggie instead of Stecker?

Deuce, Reggie, Thomas, Stecker, and Karney... I'll pass. I'm more than comfortable with that rotation.

I'm with Papz. And even if Deuce is not ready to go I still wouldn'ät bring another back in. Let Thomas do the job.

If the Saints are in the market for another running back...draft one in the 3rd or later rounds (not the 4th as it went to the Jets for Vilma). Personally, I liked to see either Matt Forte (Tulane) or Benjarvis Green-Ellis (Ole Miss) in black and gold.

One year deal no problem. But he has to make the team.

Re: Another Louisiana Native...

That fourth round pick for Vilma is next year's pick (not this year's). And it's a conditional pick, i.e. it could upgrade to a third.

That was bad media info. It is a 4th rounder this year.

Are you sure? How could give a conditional draft pick, yet pay up front before the conditions are tested? Doesn't make sense. Are you saying the conditional pick is erroneous, that it's just a flat fourth round pick, no conditons?

I hope you are right. I have read conditional in 2009. if it is a 4th straight up and his knee is ok we just pulled off one of the best trades in the saints history.

Well, I don't believe you. I just did a little google'ing, and if it's bad media, then it's consistent bad media (including the Picayune). All of the links below say the trade is a conditional pick, in 2009. So if you've got something otherwise to contest these, I'd like to see or hear about them. But until then, I'm sticking to 2009.

Re: Another Louisiana Native...

New York will receive a fourth-round pick this year for Vilma, and, with incentives, that could be upgraded to a third- or possibly a second-rounder next year
Roundup: Jets trade Vilma, acquire All-Pro DT - NFL - MSNBC.com

so if vilma performs well they would give us back the fourth pick next year (giving us 2 fourth picks) and we would lose a 2nd or 3rd

i think.... :)

Re: Another Louisiana Native...

I have heard both. Right when the trade happened I heard conditional 4th next year. But I heard on ESPN radio there was a mistake and the media misinterpreted what should have said a fourth round and a conditional. But who knows.

Re: Another Louisiana Native...

A fourth, plus a second or third? This deal is not sounding nearly as sweet, if that's the actual cost.

phatoosdey 03-03-2008 07:52 PM

Re: Another Louisiana Native...

Not a fourth + a second or third, but a fourth this year and if vilma performs well we would have to upgrade it to either a second or third next year and get jets fourth pick in 2009 - giving us (2) fourth round picks in 2009
at least thats how i decipher it

Re: Another Louisiana Native...

we give up our 4th this year.. if we sign him to an extension and he meets certian performances, then it will be upgraded to a 3rd or 2nd next year and we also get their 4th next year in return

Pak, are you sure, or is that guessing/speculation?

sure

Re: Another Louisiana Native...

Than it's a reasonable deal, I can accept it. Let's hope the Jets really suck this year, because Vilma's going to rock the Saints this year. When we get their fourth round pick next year, let's hope it's sitting right at the top of the draft order.

NEWS FLASH INTO THE NEAR FUTURE!

Saints trade up in the 2008 NFL Draft and take Darren McFadden. Payton can't resist himself. Putting two superstars in the same backfield assures the Saints one of the best offensive attacks in the league. Any question of Deuce's injury are put to rest with this pick. Look out NFL. Pick your poison with these guys.

Please don't even post something like this as a joke.

Please? If you say it too loud it may come true.

This team has burdened its fans with so many awful drafts over the decades, I think we cringe easily when we see stuff like that. Not our fault, just Pavlovian response. We've been trained to cringe.
