Eric Johnson Resign
Yale Man is back in the fold, NFL Network reports 1 year contract
Saints to re-sign TE Johnson by Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune Monday March 10, 2008, 4:37 PM The Saints agreed to a one-year deal to bring back tight end Eric Johnson, according to his agent Steve Baker. Terms were not disclosed. The 28-year-old came to New Orleans last year and started 12 games. Though he didn't flourish as hoped in the Saints' offense, he was solid, catching 48 passes for 378 yards and two touchdowns. He missed two games in December with a groin injury. The Saints now have all of their tight ends back from last year, including Johnson, Billy Miller and former starter Mark Campbell, who missed all of 2007 with a back injury. ... The Saints, meanwhile, won't be signing quarterback Trent Green as their backup to Drew Brees. He agreed to a three-year, $8.9 million deal with the St. Louis Rams. |

Re: Eric Johnson Resign
Nice move by the Saints. I don't have any real issues with the TE group. I like Johnson, Campbell and Miller. Very nice group if you ask me. I know a lot of folks assume that Brees wants a pro bowl type of TE, but with the weapons he has it's not really a necessity. Having these guys back is much better than what was available on the free agent market.

Re: Eric Johnson Resign
Sure can understand why folks would be upset signing our own FA from the 4th best offense last year. I bet there is alot of talent that was dumped from some potent offenses last year no reason to think our players are just as talented and hey they know the offense. Johnson had a decent year but I would like to see his YPC go up some seems like all he did was sit at the line as a dumpoff for Brees. Not sure what the average was but it was around 5 or 6 YPC.

Re: Eric Johnson Resign
Because the passing attack wasn't the major problem from this team last year. Look at some of the ones re-signed: Johnson, Miller, Copper, Patten, and "Teflon Hands" Henderson. Brees is a QB that spreads the ball around as we all know. Getting the guys back that he is comfortable with helps with the continuity of the offense. If some of these guys don't work out this season, it is a safe bet the team will go a different route next year. Let's just how this unfolds before we knock it.
