Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
The Lions released RB Kevin Jones and depending on what happens with Deuce I think he'd be a great fit for our offense if we got him at the right price. He is very fragile but when he's healthy he's a complete every down back. I picked him up in fantasy last year when he came back from his injury and he was very productive. He came back in great shape and was able to regain most of his agiltiy and all of his speed. Our team already has way too many ifs as it is but if this guy could stay healthy he would be a beast in our offense. He's good between the tackles, he's great when he get's outside, he has good hands for a RB, and unlike Reggie he hits the hole hard and fast when it's open. As much as I love Deuce I think it would be smart to replace him with a younger, faster, and cheaper Kevin Jones.

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
He is an Aaron Stecker type back. Which we have. He may be a few years younger than AS, but not as tenacious.

To injury prone. I'll pass

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
Kevin Jones is a complete back & I'd love to have him (at the right price). My only concern with him is durability. Oh yeah...he's way better than Stecker, guys.

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
All due respect to Mr Stecker, he is no Kevin Jones. He might be more tenacious and less injury prone but I'd rather have Jones. If Jones were to sign for Stecker money but it meant dropping Steck, I'd say do it in a heartbeat. By the way, how is Jones a Stecker like player? Steck has always been a great special teams guy and decent third down back. When Jones is on the field he is an every down back with a ton of talent. But no, he doesn't have half the heart that Stecker has and I'll admit that counts alot.

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
KJ had the best spin move ive ever seen... it became known as the "madden spin move" b/c it looked like he was playin a video game.. i wish i had video of it cuz it was great

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
We need a hammer at RB not another jitter bug. KJ is good but we have gambled enough with injured LB already.

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
Injury Prone? Do we have enough bicyles to go around this season?
|
Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
Well said, get a big, strong young RB with no injury history.

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
... call me crazy, but I don't see how "complete every down back" and "very fragile" go together..

Payton will draft his replacement... No doubt in my mind. With Deuce's replacement, we will return to the NFLs best offense again!!! |

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here, am I the only one who would like to have a combo of Bush and KJ? Did you guys see him play last year? No one can deny the fact that he's been injury prone but so are alot of players. Look at FA this year, how many times did we see teams taking a risk on players with a history of injuries. Hell we picked up Dan "Rocky V" Morgan for the love of God. What's so funny is that people say no to KJ due to injuries and then turn around and say that they hope the FO brings Deuce back. I don't see the logic in that seeing as though since Jones came into the league in '04 he has started in more games and scored more TDs than Deuce.
None of this KJ talk really matters though because we would never sign him. A guy with that kind of talent will get paid well and we already have alot of money invested in our backfield. It would be too big of a risk to sign a young fragile RB to replace an old fragile RB. Having said that, I think the Lions will regret letting him go. There have been quite a few RBs who had some injury problems early on that were able to come back and have productive careers (i.e. T. Davis, F. Taylor, J. Lewis). |
Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
I think he is worth signing.
"Injury prone RB" is now redundant. Who can actually play 16 games anymore? Defenses are too strong and fast for 95% of RB's to survive a season. KJ's o-line and coaches have not helped him at all. I'd rather sign him and draft Ellis than look at Mendenhall or McFadden |
Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
KJ is a back with a very good skill-set. If you can bring him in cheap I think you do it. But it has to be cheap because he comes with a lot of risk due to injury.

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
That's a great point ScottF, if we could pick up Jones and then draft Ellis or maybe Rivers that would be better than drafting Mendenhall and picking up a bum at DT or OLB.

Re: Kevin Jones in Black and Gold
No thanks, I'll pass, PT, steck and reggie can handle it if Deuce doesn't come back; which I think Deuce will be back or they wouldn't have pushed it back a month.
