Draft Possiblity - Trade up
Hello all, first time posting-long time reader. Life time Saints fan, finally decided to participate.
In looking at the Saints roster and their off season moves, one possibility I see them making in this years draft is trading up with New England. At this point I think the Saints want to upgrade DT more than any other position. Lets face it, everyone fell in love with the pressure the Giants front 4 were able to produce last season. So if Dorsey or Ellis are still on the board at the 7th pick, I bet they would try to get New England's #7 pick. I don't think either one will be available at the current 10th pick, and I don't believe that DT Balmer has enough to be picked at 10. If they can't do a trade then they will probably pick the best player available, between available LB and CBs. |

Re: Draft Possiblity - Trade up
Welcome. I sure would not mind seeing Dorsey or Ellis on our D, but unless they fall to 10, I wouldn't trade up. The acquisition of McCray gives us a pass rusher that would allow Grant to move inside on passing situations and there are always pass rush specialists that can be found in the mid rounds of the draft. Theres also some solid DTs that we can get in the middle rounds like Dre Moore, Demarrio Pressley, and Andre Fluellen. I think there is good enough defensive value that will be available at 10 for us to stay there. And depending on what happens with Deuce, there is always Mendenhall at 10.

I say stay put or trade down if anything. We do need help at DT but like BRSaintsFan said we can pick up a solid DT later on without giving up any picks.

NE will trade down with us. They can get the same players on D they want at #10 (McKelvin/Cromartie).
I still haven't found a single post of yours that I agree with , lol. |

Re: Draft Possiblity - Trade up
You have to figure the brain trust has every scenario ready and would pull the trigger on a deal if it was do-able. Let's face it, moving up and getting Dorsey instead of Cromartie is like getting Will Smith instead of Jason Craft.
As far as NE needing the same D players, I think they are worse off in the defensive backfield. Belichek is a "genius", but I would not want to be in his position where he has to blow a #7 overall on DRC, especially when DRC will struggle to start his rookie year. |

Re: Draft Possiblity - Trade up
The ONLY person I think worthy of trading up to get would be McFadden. There are more than capable DT's that could be available in the 2nd round (granted they are still on the board). I just hope the Saints don't botch this one by doing so. Stand pat or trade down. That is all they should do.
