NEW ORLEANS -- Two-time Pro Bowl runningback Deuce McAllister was released by the New Orleans Saints Tuesday morning.
The Saints decided to part ways with McAllister after he failed a physical on March 29th. McAllister, 29, is recovering from surgery on both of his knees in late September. The two sides had previously agreed to push back a $1 million roster bonus from March 15 to April 15 to give the team a better chance to gauge his health before making any financial decisions, but the Saints finally decided to part ways with the oft-injured runningback from Mississippi. "Deuce did a really good job for us in past years," Saints coach Sean Payton said in a statement. "But we are excited about the young runningbacks that have developed over the last year. We wish Deuce all the best. He's a true team player on and off the field." Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis declined to expand on the decision.
