Will Rivers move up the board?
After the USC Pro-day one would think that Rivers might just shoot up the board. He ran a 4.58 in the 40 and jumped over 40 inches in the vertical. With N.E.'s LB's getting up in age and the Bengals also needing defensive help in the front 7 will he be drafted before we pick? After watching his Pro-day I wouldn't mind seeing him in Black and Gold.

Re: Will Rivers move up the board?
It looks like Rivers will be there for the taking at 10. Then again, that kind of workout is impressive. He may indeed have boosted his draft position and go before the 10 spot. Running a sub 4.6 is just sick for a big linebacker! Heck, with that kind of speed he could easily keep up with most running backs swinging out of the backfield on passing plays.

I'm all for taking Rivers if we don't get Ellis. The guy brings a type of athleticism that Shanle doesn't.

I honestly don't care. I would rather have DRC or Ellis, but if we have to take Rivers I'm fine with that too, ya know.
hopefully the Bengals take him and something happens and we get Ellis. |

Maybe. after the top 6 there is a drop off. He is by no means as talented as the last three years of LBs taken in the top ten. He does not belong there but with this class he gets a big cash break.

Re: Will Rivers move up the board?
Will Rivers move up the draft boards? I'd say the answer to that is no. He was already projected as the top linebacker in the draft and a possible top 10 pick. I don't know how much further he could move up... he's definitely not going top 5 that's for sure. And if Gholston drops a bit, not top 7 either. He's right where he's been projected to go... he just solidified it with his Pro Day workout.

Re: Will Rivers move up the board?
I don't see him moving up either. I agree with #10 assestment. What I notice to is that teams like him because they feel he is the safest bet outside the top 6 picks.
I read somewheres that he is a defineate 15-20 on the boards and going to be a the most consistant performer in the NFL. In other words you wanna make a safe pick outside that top 6 Rivers is your guy. I am also convience that most teams have made up their minds and the boards are set this time of year. Its only media and fans who play with and try and predict whats going to happend and all that can happen that day. I mean these draft picks have played all the football they are going to play nothing more to put to tape, its done. Anything they do now is second guessing and that is never good. Who cares what your 40 speed is or high how you can jump its a matter how you translated that speed and agilities on the field. Its done. Whatever it is its done. |

Re: Will Rivers move up the board?
Is it possible rivers can move up the board? yes. By how much is the question. I feel pretty certain rivers goes to the Saints at #10. However, I have seen mocks with him going to Cincy at 9. I don't see Rivers going higher than 9 imo. I think the excellent Pro-Day further warrants the Saints selecting him at 10 as expected. I am thinking that Cincy will grab him first leaving us with an open-ended decision on where to go with the pick. Mendenhall, Clady, or a CB.
Rivers is a decisive selection. It would be hard to argue that he will not perform well in the NFL. There is security with the pick and not much scrutiny. However, any other pick from a saints standpoint will come with some level of scrutiny. I hope for the sake of the organization and this forum that rivers is there. Everyone here has a differing opinion on who we should select if rivers, ellis, and dorsey are gone off the board. Time will tell. But it should be interesting. I disagree on the point that teams have solidified there boards on 3 Apr. True, there is no more film to gain. But pro days and personal workouts are still taking place. |
